Would it be salvageable?

Yep - it's salvageable - no worse that a bent rod from any other cause.....

So to fill you all in - Max currently has no heart - one is hanging from a chain in the garage, while the replacement is on an engine stand to have bits transplanted across to it.

No 1 rod is bent, and all four exhaust ports had water in them, so she sucked in a WHOLE gobfull.

Looking at the difference between the two motors, I'm even more pissed at myself - the intake ports and valves in my original motor are almost spotlessly clean - the replacement motor has considerably more carbon in the ports. Looks like the 200000Km my original engine has done have been done well, so I'm very much inclined to keep it as a good motor, once it is rebuilt.

Refreshening the replacement is the next task - cam belt, water pump, etc etc etc.....

Should be fun.

It sucks (no pun intended) to hear what has happened, but on the bright side it sounds like an easy way to justify an engine rebuild to the Mrs.

Would you consider doing the Seafoam thing again but with the orifice installed in the feed line?

If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

I love slow projects..... :)

With the plenum off it's a good chance to polish it like I've wanted to - all the casting marks came off the intake runners this afternoon, and the new front crank seal (on the replacement) is in...

You might cop a little abuse from the 'ardcore racers but i'm glad to see you taking the time and attention to making your engine look so good.

Okibi, do you hand out sunglasses whenever you're asked to open your bonnet?

To be honest no one really asks to see what's under the bonnet, the car looks pretty stock; perhaps if I had turbo p0w3r it may be different.
