I Am A Spannerhead!!!!! - Seeking the forum's help

Postby Uncle Arthur » Wed Jul 18, 2007 9:20 pm

Alrighty - this is gonna make some of you laugh, and some of you cry - I'm doing the latter.....

Been doing a bit of reading up on the miataturbo forum on some maintenance for the inside of the motor..... it involves removing one of the plenum intake hoses at the plenum, and replacing it with a little bit of vacuum hose sitting in some distilled water - according to the instructions it's a good way of cleaning out carbon in the chambers.....

Turns out it's also a damn good way to *uck an engine.

Apparently not the thing to do while the engine is at operating temperature

A little bit of water, a little bit of clunk, now a whole lot of nothing..... Removed all plugs - number 1 pot was full of water. Siphoned it out, disconnected the CAS, but she will not turn over.

I'm thinking I might need a replacement motor for this little adventure.....

Anyone know anyone with a resonable condition 1.6 they can part with for a good cost, and who's up for another Uncle Arthur Giant Dodgy Day?????

SIGH.............................

OK, will it turn over at all. I mean with a socket on the crank, anything?
What sort of clunk?
How much bloody water went into it?

I know if you lose a head gasket, you get water in the engine sometimes.
Calm down and try to figure out how much water is in it.

Did it make a loud crack much like metal cracking with cold water cracking the hot engine?

Is there any oil leak?
Water leak?

 Bloody hell UA :!: You could have had a bit of hydraulic lock happening but that's a lot of water.

Try putting it in first gear with the plugs out and see if it can be turned over by moving the car.

MX-5 Plus for a replacement engine - if the worst has happened - is my recommendation.

It looks like these are the critical instructions:

CAUTION: The Mazda Top Engine Cleaner must be fed into the engine through the correct vacuum line and at a feed rate not less than 1.5 minutes per half container with an orifice (P/N E5B6 13 986) in the feeding hose. A faster feed rate may result in liquid accumulation in a cylinder resulting in hydraulic lock-up and engine damage.

CAUTION:
Do not use the pcv hose. Engine damage may occur due to excessive cleaner entering the engine.
Do not use a vehicle vacuum hose. Supply your own feeding tube and install orifice (P/N E5B613 986).
Attach a pair of locking pliers (Vise grips) to the feeding tube to prevent suction while the engine is cranking.

I can't imagine what's happened to lock the engine up completely.

I'm available for dodgy engine swap.

Have you tried turning it over with all the plugs out?

You shouldn't have broken anything at idle (you were idling weren't you?)

Who said anything about sharing.

Me thinks the following.

1/ Intake stroke - sucks water
2/ Compression stroke - compresses water through rings and/or valves.

= F##### engine.

I was idling.

I have tried turning it over.

I have tried moving the car in gear.

It is jammed tighter than something tight.
