Adrenalin RE001 or S-Drive?

Hey guys,

I need some tyres for my new set of wheels. They are going to be my every day set of tyres but I want something I can use on the track too. I was planning on getting RT615 Falkens but I can't find them for less than $260 a corner (can't get 195 so this is a price for 205/50/15).

Unless I can find the Falkens cheaper somewhere, the two tyres I am considering are the Bridgestone Adrenalin RE001 and the Yokohama S-Drive (both 195/50/15). I would also consider the Toyo T1R but I can't find anyone willing to quote on them. I know both these tyres won't be as sticky as the Azenis but I would be interested in what people have to say about them. Feel free to recommend something else too!

Kula might be able to tell you more about the Adrenalins since he just got them installed in his car
If anything, his review was glowing and they seem to be great tires
I can't comment on any of the tyres since I've only tried Pirelli Monza and Michelin PP2s

You should be able to get S-Drives for $150 or less per corner (195/50/15)since I was quoted for that size not so long ago

The RE001's looked like an excellent tyre when i ordered them through Bridgestone. I had a very close look at them, the side wall is very strong and hard to flex.

ive got the re001 on my car now actually. Havnt had them for long, probably 2 weeks. I can't really compare them to anything because my previous tyres were $hit house. But so far these seems to grip pretty well in both wet and dry. Like green_comet has mentioned the sidewalls of the re001 have been reinforced giving it a sharper and more smooth response. It's not noisy either. All in all i think these are ok street tyres, costing in at $129 during the sale i cant complain really.

I've also been a fan of the Falkens (FK-451). However, when Falken released the FK-452 this year, they no longer make the NB8B standard size (205/45/16). Either I get a 215/40/16 or a 205/50/16. The latter being smaller diameter than stock and the former slightly higher and loosing the lower profile stance.

So a Yokohama S-Drive is my choice for now. What sold me was the segment in the Carshow from last Saturdays (14th July) episode. Glen Ridge demonstrated the capabilities of S-Drive by driving an Audi A4 in circles on an S-Drive following an identical Audi A4 on standard OEM tyres. No difference at lower speeds, but when they got upto 60km/h (still driving in circles), the OEM fitted Audi understeered widely.

Good demo on how effective they where IMO. The Bridgestone website also does not refer to the RE001 as having a Silica compound. I feel the Silica compound (found in S-Drive & Falkens) provide superior grip in the wet. So I've been let to believe, unless someone else have a different opinion.

So unless Falkens bring out a 205/45/16, I'm going S-Drive in my next set of tyres - which is very, very soon.

Got a set of the RE001 on the MX5 now, and I am extremely impressed. Excellent sidewall, good grip, relatively quiet. Good feel so far and very progressive. Its only done road kms so far so all thoughts are road based.

I need a new set of shoes as well but neither the RE000000001 nor the Sdrive seem to come in a 14in.

Any suggestions guys?

Babalouie, their predecessors come in 14s: GIIIs and C-drives. Both are good value and well liked. Go 185/60, not 195/60 - I think the 195s are just too tall.

I would go the bridgestones, after having the olde potenza g3 the case is alot firmer in the bridgestone to the toyo, and after seeeing the new bridgestones think they are much stickier then the old ones so it should make a good combo.

bridgestone have told me that adrenalins will be out for 14's around summer

The Adrenalin is only in lower than 60 series, currently. However a 185/60R14 will be later in the plan dec or Jan .

Well both the G3 and C-drive seem pretty highly regarded so I think this one's gonna come down to price

Just spoke to Jax Quickfit tyres. They say the Bridgetone RE001s are better than the Yokohama S-Drive.

They also advised the S-Drive is a softer compound tyre so will wear out quicker. But having said that he recommended above both RE001 and S-Drive is the new Michelin Pilot Preceda 2. They cost the same as the RE001 but are apparently much better.

That's weird, I heard conflicting advice!

I ended up going with the S-Drive because it was meant to last a bit longer than the Adrenelin and was only $10 more. I've decided to get some R compound tyres for my original 14" wheels, I think in the end this will be better than my original plan of just having one set of wheels with the Azenis on them.
