Noise from wheel

Postby Boost » Mon Jul 16, 2007 2:33 pm

Hi guys,
I've had this annoying noise for a while now. I have decided to investigate it today and have narrowed it down to this. When I smack the tyre with a mallet it makes a kind of rattling sound, similar to the dust shield hitting another piece of metal. The sound is coming from the hub, dust shield region. Its not caused by a rock or heat shield, its definately coming from the hub - dust shield/cover region. I tried jacking the car up and hitting it again with a mallet and the noise is still there.

Any thoughts or opinions? Has anyone had any similar problems?

Are your brake pads rattling around in the caliper?

Hi Garry, ive read alot of noise problems and one of the issues is the brake pads moving around.. Silly me when i checked my pads the first time i was investigating it never occured to me to release the handbrakes... Just checked it again, with the handbrakes down this time.. and YES!! YiPPY!.. its the pads moving around.. the metal clip is not doing its job... Can i get a replacing clip? or do i need to get new pads put in?

Mazda in their money making wisdom only sell the anti rattle clips with a new set of genuine pads. NA ones are available seperately from MX5partsuk though.
