Just wondering how many of us are using the Wolf ECU .
I have had my Wolf performance tuned by Mania, but I have also done a lot of work with it to get it to the point where it is just like the factory computer in regards to all the nice stuff as in perfect cold start, closed loop running for better fuel economy, proper A/C idle up and all the other complicated options that the wolf has. I have been on the phone with Robbie at AEMS for the past while and I must say that the customer service is excellent. He has helped me greatly in getting the finer points working and now not only does the computer give me all it's advantages in regards to better power etc with the cams I have installed, but also it is just like factory in regards to all the nice things we take for granted.
Just thought I would pass on what I have learnt if anyone is interested now that the car is running just like it was factory, only with all the advantages of using the wolf, like no A/F meter, better tuning with the cams (thanks to David at MX5 Mania), but also with first turn of the key cold start, no matter how hot or cold the weather is, A/C idle up when it turns on - big trick to this one, closed loop - need extra settings for this to work properly.
I am certainly no guru, but am happy to pass on what I have learnt, now that I don't have any annoying compromises in regards to driveability which some computers may or may not have.

I have a wolf in my car, and its an absolute pig on cold startup (though with the injectors I've got its hard to tune the cold start), and the aircon idle up used to be a problem, until I got closed loop......Are you running a wide band sensor for your closed loop? Dave (at mania) seems to think it doesnt require it, but I wouldnt really know

To get the aircon idle up to work correctly you have to cut two wires from the original loom before the plug that goes into the wolf and then install a standard relay using these two wires. Once this is done, the idle up works fine.
The problem is that the wires which are 1Q and 1J are meant to send a small voltage to the wolf computer when you turn the a/c on. In reality, they are doing the exact opposite. They send a full voltage when the A/C is off and then no voltage when the a/c is on. By installing the relay, it reverses this. I have the full instructions from Robbie at AEMS on how to do this. It is extremely easy, I did it myself in about 1/2 an hour. Spent that much time as I used proper connectors and solder wires - no dodgy stuff to come back and haunt me. But it works a treat. Send me a PM and I can send you the instructions.
What settings are you using for cold start? The particular ones are fuel and ignition timing. When David tuned my MX (in summer mind you) the standard map settings were bearable but it took about 3 turns of the key to get the car fired up. After talking to Robbie at AEMS and making some adjustments the MX now fires up first time in the middle of a Canberra winter which is getting into single figures. Need to know what your starting fuel rates and starting ignition settings are.

Hmmm I would of thought it'd need the wideband sensor...ah well. I have the same problem - when Dave first tuned my car, it was in the middle of summer, and now in winter the car takes 3 or 4 turns of the key to start. What sized injectors are you running, as I'm running 440's, so fine tuning it is a bit of a problem....

I'm running the standard 1.8 injectors, but have tighe cams installed. It became a real pig as winter started to come on. Same as you, it took three turns of the key to get it going. But now, 1 turn and it fires up and idles nicely at 1200 rpm which slowly goes back to normal idle speed as the engine warms up. Even this morning it was zero degrees and very foggy when I left for work today and the MX started first turn of the key.
Do you have a laptop to make adjustments to the map?
If so, maybe you can send me your map and I can make the same changes that I have made to get mine starting first turn of the key and then send it back to you to try it. I made several changes in the starting ignition timing, starting fuel rates as well as other parts of the fuel options which affect the start up, as well as mods to the idle options as well. I'd be happy to help out by making the same mods to your map, then send it back to you with a full explanation of what I have done and what effect it will have. Also if you have a laptop, what version of the wolf software are you running. Robbie sent me the latest version which makes a difference when tuning. I don't touch the fuel map at all, as the map is fine.
If your closed loop isn't working properly, you probably need the same mods to some options in the computer software that Robbie gave me. As soon as I made the mods he told me, the closed loop kicked in and just needed a little fine tuning with the percentages and jump rate ratio. Now that I have it about 99% right, I am getting excellent fuel economy around town. I say 99% because I am never happy with anything really, I always fiddle just a little to see if I can get things that little bit better.

well aware that i am digging up an old thread here but info is needed again.
Does anyone have the software that i could use for just a day? Just need to check, well, everything. I have a laptop and the cable is easy to get but i just cant get a hold of the software and i dont have $100 spare to go buy it right now.
if anyone can help out let me know as the car really needs a tune.
