All US NB's have ODB2, I wonder what you'd need to add to an Aussie NB to get ODB2 hooked up. :?
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

I don't know.

At the very least you'd need the ODB2 harness and plug

Just quickly dropping back to oxygen sensors for a mo. I've had a bugger of a time tracking down a replacement for an NA8. I thought I'd note it down here for posterity.

The OEM for a late 94 to 97 NA8 is a 4-wire model.

Mazda quote a very modest replacement price of $460.

The Bosch OE replacement is 0 258 003 550, which comes with the right plug and all fitted, so it's a straight swap. It's also virtually unfindable.

The Bosch Universal is the LS05, also called 0 258 986 505. It looks like it's a second generation heated thimble type and comes with a wire re-joining kit so you can connect it back using your original plugs. Repco list it at $126. Like anything Repco you'd regard this as a starting price and work them down from there. 8)

Interesting information Mr Manga. Ta for that.
I bought (for my NA8) the Bosch universal 4 wire "LS 07" - part # "0 258 986 507-36Y.
This info was posted up by 93_Clubman in January last year.
So now we have:
Bosch 0 258 003 550 (OEM ??)
Bosch 0 258 986 505 (The Manga choice)
Bosch 0 258 986 507-36Y (93_Clubman and FastFreddy's choice)

Is there any difference between them?

On my car (with the OEM sensor), the exhaust was black as after a few km's, your eyes would sting if you stood behind it when it idled, and it blew lot's of fuel rich smoke on hard acceleration.
After replacing the O2 sensor, idle is better (no more tears), no more smoke, power appears to be improved as is throttle response and....wait for it... fuel economy has DECREASED!!!! :?: :?:
I used to get 550km's per tank standard FFG driving. That has now dropped to less than 480km.
Go figure.

as for price.
We all know Repco's pricing
I ended getting mine from Autopro in Mildura for $88. My local Autopro had nil stock and wanted $20+ to freight it down from Mildura (only they and Parramatta store had one in stock)
so I rang the Mildura store and told them the situation.
I got it in the post a few days later.

A quick google search comes up with

Bosch Part Number
13275 and here and here
15733
840530 15734
15706

Perhaps the US has different part numbers to us, this only makes it more confusing :?

Yep, it's all totally confusing.

BoschUSA DOES have its own feral numbering system. I gave up trying to buy anything based on their numbers.

As far as I can tell the Bosch OE and the LS05 are the same thing except the OE has a Mazda plug on the end.

The LS07 fits MX-5s and it's more widely available (because it's used on lots more cars basically) but it has subtly(?) different performance characteristics from the LS05. Bosch recommend the LS05, not the LS07, as the best match to our stock ECU. Remains to be seen whether that's true or not - I'm getting an LS05 later this week.

Holy thread revival batman

I just got the NTK 0ZA116-M5 direct fit 4 wire for $100 from Repco. DIRECT FIT FOR A BLOODY PAJERO! What is the hiring policy like at Repco, do they only accept the mentally challenged or something?

Edit

On closer examination, its definitely not a straight fit replacement like the bloke said, the plug is completely different, the original Mazda one is a femal plug, this NTK one is a male. So if the sensor is still the right one, I could cut my plug off and solder it on to this one. Except the wires are different colours, the Mazda sensor has two black wires, a grey wire and a blue one, this NTK one has a black, a grey and two white wires. WTF

Do I take it back or what?

Adam
Take it back, get a refund if they can work out how to do it, then ring Ashdown Ingram (owned by Repco) in Adelaide and tell them the Bosch part no from above and they will get the right part for you and probably a better price. These people are the trade suppliers to auto elecs, mechanics etc but do sell retail. Do you know what Repco stands for, clean version:Rip Every Poor Customer Off, use your imagination for the c for the trade version.

The NTK one will work if you're prepared to cut and solder wires from the new unit onto the old plug. miata.net and bosch.com.au used to have threads about wire colour conventions and join-ups.

The original was often an NTK too. NTK are good quality units. You might even find matching wire colours above the joiner plug.

I took it back and got a refund this afternoon. I'll see if Motor Traders have one on Monday, or maybe the Ashdown Ingram place

Never heard of this one.
It's either running really rich, or it's blown something in a big way.

Oxygen Sensor - problems

Postby Okibi » Fri Feb 27, 2009 1:57 pm

Does anyone have the Bosch part number for a 4 wire O2 sensor ?

The Aussie website doesnt have modern MX-5s listed.

The USA website doesn't have a part number that my supplier can use (15733).

Bosch 0 258 003 550 (OEM ??)
Bosch 0 258 986 505 (The Manga choice) <-- 18watt heater (ground isolated case)
Bosch 0 258 986 507-36Y (93_Clubman and FastFreddy's choice) <--12 watt heater (ground isolated case)

Which one is it?

IF the original IS the 0 258 003 550 then the 0 258 986 505 is the replacement listed.

I took a gamble and got a Bosch 0 258 986 505-36Y.

I'll let you all know how it goes and if it makes any difference.
