Garrys right, any new car delivered to Oz needs these to pass ADR's Hammer, the up spec RX-8's and the Luxo MPS3's runs these to pass ADR's.

Your car is now defectable!

I think you will find this is correct Hammer - Mania had a damaged import Mazdaspeed Axela at their shop for a while, and it had "factory" HIDs but no auto-level or washers as the MPS3 Lux pack does. Our ADRs are pretty fussy about it!

Our ADRs are fussy? Actually our ADrs are fairly much "harmonised" with the EU. And it was them that stipulated auto levelling and washers for HID headlights. Just consider Japanese regs to be "not" fussy

Finally fitted the HID kit over the weekend.

The wiring itself was straightforward in the end. Most of the time was spend figuring out where to locate the 2xBallast of the kit. As in my SP, there are no/if not limited available spots left (The carbon fibre airbox took up most of the empty space on the right hand side, and the re-located windscreen washer reservoir took up the space on the left - if compared to a standard NB8B).

But once the ballasts were securely fitted, the wiring was a simple plug-n-play.

The current Honda Accord (?) runs HID I think. Problem is they are blinding head on.

They are even worse coming from behind slightly off centre. One of the worst factory HID setups I've come across for glare to other road users.

Everytime I see one it is like they are on high beam. Can you imagine how many complaints the Honda dealers are getting (serves them right though).

I agree the accords are pretty bad... also most of their headlights leak water into them causing them to fog up!.

It must be the way they are aligned.

As when I fitted the HID Kit to the low beam of my NB8B, I installed one side first to compare it's performance to the existing standard halogen bulb. The horizontal plane of both headlights (light coverage) was level and defined. So no mis-aligned reflection etc.

But having said that, technically, they're illegal. As the ADR stipulates that all OEM HID equipt cars must also have a headlight washer installed. Not sure about self-leveling though.

I drive a NB8A and have always found my headlamps to be terrible so a few months ago I purchased a set of Morette Projector Beam Headlamps and fitted them with 6000k HID Globes.
I was careful to adjust the Low Beam Projector Lamps correctly and have certainly never had anyone flash me. The lighting is nothing short of fantastic in all weather conditions.
As has been mentioned it is illegal to convert Reflector Headlamps to HID as it causes serious glare to oncoming drivers, Projector Lamps have a highly defined cutoff point and thus glare is not an issue if they are adjusted correctly.

The total cost for my conversion was $459.00 but SO worth it.

Na, that's not being a pain. It's being rude having one installed and not having it adjusted.

A few months ago, a POS Starlet had one of these fitted and was sitting right behind me an faarrrkk it was bright. So I changed lanes braked, tucked in behind him and accelerated again and drove with the high beems on for a few minutes.

I don;t think he like that too much.

that is the best thing to do to sum1.. Its worse when they dont realise what your on about though

if you buy the right plug & play kit, you shouldn't need to fiddle around with battery wires. it should be plug and play with the existing headlight wiring harness. hardest bit is deciding how to mount the ballasts in/around the engine bay.
