My new seats

Postby meanmx » Thu Jun 21, 2007 9:50 pm

Hi all. Just thought I would share a couple of piccies of my new seats. They are recaro rip-offs but they are adr'd so I would presume they are reasonably safe. They were an absolute pain in the ass to fit especially the passenger one but thanks to many posters on this forum I got it sorted out in the end. They are very, very tight and I even had to take the plastic cover from around the adjustment lever off so that I could fit them in. A couple of early thoughts -
They are an awesome mod
I need to lose a little weight
I'm a bit concerned about some of the high wear areas ie where the seatbelt strap slides over the shoulder. But I will worry when the time comes
Red is ridiculously easy to mark
My car feels faster now
You sit a little bit higher in these. Just as well I got a flat bottom steering wheel

They were well worth the money and thanks goes to my wife for buying these for my anniversary even though she didn't want to. I know some people wont like these but everyone to themselves. I like them alot.

Ben

Hi Ben...I'm eyeing off some Justjap seats too....those looks awesome in your 5 8) Can you possibly point me in the direction of some info on installing? eg on issues encountered....or if you have like a thread here where you posted all your install steps etc that would be awesome :) (I tried to find it yes....alas it was not fruitful)

Do they sit a lot higher than standard seats? If not how much roughly?

Thanks heapssss

Oh and also....any clearance left on either side of the seat? If so how many cm's approx?

Those Recaro copies are quite narrow already....I was eyeing off the Bride copies which look a bit wider so I'm not sure if those will fit now... :?

Thanks.

Seats look good Ben, you should look at colouring the inside of the seats black to break up the red a bit.. will also be harder to stain..

Nice mod..

Thanks for all the comments guys.

Is this what they do in the states? Seriously I was looking at the red/black ones which have black on the sides and red inside. But when I eventually found a place that sold them he had either red or black. I was worried the red would be too much but in reality they look pretty good and tie the red in the interior together nicely. As for the staining, it's just as well I still had the old seats in when I took Stu down the Great Ocean Road

Thanks for the comment Derek. You ask most of the same questions I was contemplating before I bought mine. I got most of my info from this thread so thanks to all who contributed http://www.aus-cartalk.com/viewtopic.php?t=24726. I didn't really want to post up how I did it as there are a few critical people on here who will no doubt find fault with what I did but it sucks being left in the dark so I will try.

The drivers side was very easy. The front of the rails use the same holes to go up into the seats but the rear holes have to be drilled about 15mm closer to the front (this is not an exact measurement. You will see when you go to do it). Then it's a matter of just bolting it in.

The passenger side was a lot more difficult as the seat holes are wider than the car holes by about 15mm. I had to basically elongate the holes where you bolt them into the car by about 7mm each side front and back with a dremel. It took a long time to do this but be patient. I then had to get slighty longer bolts to bolt them in. Off the top of my head the bolt thread is 10 x 1.25.

The seats were a very tight squeeze to get in and there is absolutely no room on each side. As mentioned I even had to remove the plastic cover around the seat adjustment lever to fit them in! That's tight  . I found that I was probably about 3-5 cm's higher afterwards. If you are over 6 feet I do not recommend these. Also you might want to consider a flat bottom steering wheel.

I was looking at the bride style as well but I went with the recaro because I think they are sexy as. I believed that the recaro and bride were about the same width but you might want to take a tape measure to it. The bride was softer so may be a bit more comfortable. They look great from the back with the roof down 8) . Hope this helps.

If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Nice colour....I wish i had matching coloured seats :P .

Are your side flares hitting the door handle? I've got Recaro's (same style as yours) on mine and the side flare are hitting the door handles, which is leaving a permanent indent in them :| . I'm also finding that it robs a lot of leg room too. I'm pretty damn short (170cm) and I need to push my seats as far back as I can to be comfortable. I have friends close to 6 foot and they really struggle to fit.

Other than that, they are nice seats :)
