what about the 205 tyre ? but lets face it 8 inch is massive. do you really need to go that wide with the wheel?

Federal?? I thought they are made in Taiwan?? I have 2 off these Federal RS595 which my friend gave me for some reason... its been sitting in my garage for a while... its got abt 90% rubber, almost brand new.. are they really good?

I couldnt get the wheels i wanted any thinner..

First impressions are that they grip very well but there seems to be a delay for lack of a better word between the grip of the tyres and when the car reacts. The tyres grip but the car seems to continue as though it feels like it is going around the outside of the corner until the car is set. It also seems to take a litlle while to come out of the set for a corner as well.

Hopefully this should sort itself out after getting some good heat through the tyres and get rid of the squirminess once they have been scrubbed in a little. I think a couple of firm not hard driving should do it.

Was just about to ask the same question! As you know, I just had mine fitted. I took them through the paces through some twisty backroads and found them very squishy on the sidewalls at high speed through corners.....even a little scary! Have them fitted to standard 16" NB8B rims (205/45/16). Tyre guy recommended 36PSi front/rear. I tried 38PSI for the return trip and they seemed a little better, but still dont feel as good as my old warn out Turanzas!

Any suggestions!! Maybe have them too hard! What are people running at the track??

I found the T1R side walls a little squishy but that makes them more predictable when they're going to slide.

Interesting - Toyos have a reputation for really soft sidewalls...


Just trying to give some fellow MX5ers all the information to make their own judgement on before the big purchase. It’s possible that the 17”s show up this characteristics more than the 15 & 16" wheels. Just another thought.

not to confused with the SS 595, which is a lot cheaper.

the RS 595 is a road compound with a semi slick tread pattern. by all reports I've read......very similar in performance to the Azenis RT615. Of course The Gent trying to sell me theses tyres thought they ran rings around the RT 615's.

if they are the RS 595 get them fitted try them out, I wouldn't mind your feed back. Then if you like them......stick 2 more on the back & youre done. You've got yourself some serious road tyres which will not cook as soon as you track them. But will probably never be as good a a fresh set of R compound tyres.

ohh.. I just realised that those I hv are 595 but not RS.... how do they perform (i these 595s)? I somehow didnt want to put them on, bcoz i do not have much confidence of the Federal tyres... but from wht you just said, the 595RS seem to be kind of good tyres...

so how much are these T1-Rs?

from memory, someone said that after the toyo worn out 50% of the rubber, the grip will not be good as?

What we need is a day where everyone gets together and just tries out all the tyres. Just bring some stands, and people can just rim swap with whatever tyre they wanna try.
