Soft top, Hard top, no top??

Hi All,

I'm after some advice, my soft top rear window is hard to see out and with Melbournes winter I don't brave to drive around with the top down.
The soft top is also torn in a few small places.

So I need to think of a replacement.

Options are:

A) Replacement Soft top
B) New Hard top

For A) I was considering the ones on ebay, any feedback on them, would the glass version clear my BD Roll bar? Are they simple enough to install at home? Should I stick with the plastic rear window instead of glass, ie does anyone miss not being able to unzip their back window?
Any other recommendations on where to get one from for a reasonable price?

For B) again, will it clear a BD roll bar, any on sale in melbourne at the moment? Will it fix any leaks issues around the windows on the soft top?

Give Silvo or Brasso a go on the window. I did it on the weekend with mixed results, but works if it's foggy, this should clear it up heaps or a few tips here (window fixing).

Mines got a tare as well in the top that'd been sewn shut and sealed with some matching patch (brought it like that, so don't know the full details). But a few coats of vinyl paint covered it up fairly well.

If it were me, I would go with a no zip glass soft top. Much like the NB.

Same here.....and I did do this. Keep in mind that if you have the older Brown Davis roll bar this will not work. You need a 'NB type' roll bar.

hardtop will clear the BD bar, but it might be a very close fit, well mine is. check by testing someone's HT on your car. as for window leaking i never had an issue to start with so can't offer any advice there.

my hardtop hasnt' come off since i put it on a few months ago but when it warms up i'll take it off.

as stated before unless you have a NB BD rollbar then the glass window soft top won't fit

No problem with hard top and BD bar. Mine has a 5-10mm clearance. Remember to factor in the cost of the additional fittings you need with the hard top. I have heard they are not cheap.

Did you move to Melbourne? I thought you were in The Gong???

Thanks for the tips guys, any feedback on the soft tops off ebay, the ones from the UK? MY BD bar is an NB model so glass window should be ok.

I have an ebay one and have commented many times on this forum about how good I find it to be. I got the mohair one with the glass rear window which landed for just under $1000. The problem with this whole hard top/soft top thing is that when you don't have the hard top on your soft top is still screwed. I like having the soft top only as it gives me the freedom to pull the roof down whenever I like. Even when you freeze your nuts off like today :lol:

hey ben what did it cost to get it fitted?.. or did you do it..

i just went for convieneince and bought an NB one from mania.. whats the mohair like?.. easier/harder to keep clean?
