So what is \"king of the hill\" in terms of road tyres these days?

Apparently my rear C -Drives are getting long in the tooth, and I shall be looking for something to replace them really soon.

Thanks!

Q may have a point. I find it REALLY hard to hit the limit of my C-Drives when cornering at any sort of speed. I get to that point where you think it may be time to back off a bit, but they are still gripping. I feel perhaps they don't communicate quite as well as they could. I'm sure there's more grip in them than you can feel.

Actually out of curiosity I tried the other day in a controlled situation whilst pushing reasonably hard on one of those 360degree freeway entries when there were no other cars anywhere near me. There was good runoff if they did start to break, so I kept accelerating through the corner. I still couldn't quite make them start to go, and I just didn't want to push any further as the speed was increasing. I was quite impressed with the G's the car was loading up and the suckers didn't even squeal.

I think tyre pressure has plenty to do with it.
Having said that I would not buy them again, but that's more to do with wanting to try something different, than any fault with the tyres. They are perfectly competent on an MX-5, and for the price are a great buy.

Strangely perhaps, I simply loved the Pilots that came with Juffas wheels I bought.

I will be putting the S.Drives on my 17x7 wheels soon. I like my C.Drives so I thought I'd try the next best apparently. I will post up a review when they go on, and after I have dríven them for a few thousand Kms.

Just put a set of 195/50/15 C drives on my 5 and a set of 195/50/15 S drives on the brothers 5. We ran at Philip Island in a hill climb recently and were both very impressed with our tyres. Very predictable in both wet and dry conditions. (yes, we got rain in Victoria !!!)Our times were within 0.5 sec of each other all day.
Could not buy C drives for the wife's Renault Scenic as they are no longer made in 205/55/15, so she now has S drives. So far they to have been brilliant.
Sadly MX5 less for a while.

Finally!!! Someone who has used S.drives in the rain! :D

Friend of mine at work is happy with his s.drives, but of course hasn't had a chance to get them wet in the last 3 weeks or so...

I have pretty much made up my mind that I will get some s.drives in the near future :)

I've got the C drives and I concur with jules, I think he hit it on the head. The thing that impressed me the most is the wet weather grip and the fact that they let go way later than you expect.

C Drives are still available in Vic,I'm getting 2 rears today to replace those already on after 28000klms hard dríven ,never rotated.

I think they are a great tyre, grip, quiet and reasonable wear.

Only $10 extra per tyre for S Drives but as my fronts are still around 60-65% I went for Cdrives.

My partner has just put them on her Megane and can't believe how much better they are than the OE Continentals(Shagged after 300klms! of gentle running).

I thought i'd rekindle this post as i am looking at getting a set of s-drives in the next week or two. Has anyone else tried these yet? With all that wet weather there has to be a few of you who have experienced them in wet conditions. Just looking for a few more reviews before committing to them for a couple of years. Im looking at 195/50R15.

Kevin,

The Adrenalin is only in lower than 60 series, currently. However a 185/60R14 will be later in the plan dec or Jan . 195/60R14 is available in Grid 2 (previous pattern to G3) made in Aus, and in the Wide oval.

SO there are still some performance tyres available.

I know this is an old thread - but it is relevant.

Got the S-drive's fitted to my MX5 about 3 weeks ago. Ever since then the car has been amazing - I can only recomend them.

My recomendation is further based, when I am 100% sure these tyres saved my car considerable damage and a dog's life. It was raining here in Brisbane, and a dog ran directly out in front of the car. I braked briefly, realizing though it was too late to brake so let go of that; and then did a swerve. My goodness, the tyres just gripped!! Had it been the old ones (some sort of goodyear they were); I am sure the car would have spun out OR we would have hit the poor dog (yes - it was that close).

So guys - if you want handling and safety, I recomend these.
