Thanks gang - the thread really took off . They have to be similar to the C-Drives I hope. And much, much better than the Marshalls (I know, I know) that are on the rear. At $167 per corner, that's pretty fair I reckon so I will give them a go and see what happens.

Yeah, was thinking about C drives when I was looking for rubber. I don't think I found anyone near where I worked that stocked them, so went for the Kumho's instead. Would be interesting to see how they compare.

Most know that I think that the Michelin P2s are the ants’ pants for road and club track work and that Toyo T1-Rs just aren’t up to it.

Funny that one un-named Club member at Wakefield now agrees with me as his times were 2 seconds a lap slower with the T1-Rs on his NB8C.

Saw this thread the other day so thought I would have a look at the Kumho product. Bought a set of Ecsta SPT KU31's today.

I have run Toyos, Yokies, Michies, Bridgies, and I think Pirellies street tyres on the track, to be honest, they are not made for it, you will live on the edge and grab a hot lap here or there, in between ploughing the paddock. I don't like to Plough paddock's!

If you want track tyres then buy type R product, you will improve your times and be better off for it. But, you will have to compete with cars that have a lot more than tyres to make them go fast in club events. So now the question is What is the best Type R product for an MX-5????

KU31's in a 195/50/15 cost $100 a corner, a full $15 a corner less than the Toyo T1R's, and I will bet around $50 plus a corner less than plenty of others. $100 is cheap as, I mean really cheap

As for times on the track, we will see next club day.

Track days rip the guts out of street rubber, so I expect that the KU31's will be crap in no time at all, but they won't have cost that much at all, and that is a good thing!!!

CB, I think you need to get over the T1R thing, cause I think they even passed you on their way to hell.

If you call a crawl from Tempe to Penrith on the M4 in peak hour a test, here is my opinion.

Very quiet, but then again I only got up to 60 so you would expect that.

I have plans for a little run in time on the weekend, starting with my local test track GPSS.

I did a run up the Putty on Monday in the TDI, the storms certainly made a bit of a mess, trees over the road, rock walls collapsed, and the creek that runs beside the last bit was a raging torrent.

But, the road works have been finished and the road is beautifull, a work of art, best enjoyed in the cool air of the early morning, with a little fire in your eyes.

Uhh, is that good or bad? Relative measures are all well and good when we know what we're measuring against, but I have no idea
(a) what makes a good lap time
(b) how those RT615s rate in the tyre quality scale
