Car goes back for the final tune tomorrow, it'll be worth doing a compression check after the \"swallowing of the socks\" episode at Wakefield..keep you posted

Socks are fine - never had any probs with mine but they had the springs inside them so there is no way they will get sucked in and secondly, they were zip tied for extra security. Redline ones work well.:)

A friend of mine had to fit mesh over the end of the springs on his rally car to stop it inhaling socks.

It never seemed to hurt the motor though...

Can someone explane \"inhaling socks\" to me please? :?

I've got an image of the filter over each inlet being sucked inside the throttle body...

Bevan, that's exactly what happened. The socks must have been 12years old and that's all I had due to the late finish (or half finish) of the tune.

They had rotted away and were sucked into the intake, had to dig each one out from the throttle bodies, made quite a difference in power, but by then the rain had settled in

How does this not damage the engine?

Engines are tougher than you'd think. Soft foam vs steel and aluminium, which do you think is going to win?

You might get a bit of excess wear from running unflitered air, but other than that, it should be OK.

If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.
