Does the air come from the cabin? If so doesn't it make the cabin stink of petrol and your ears ring from the induction noise?

No it dont, the hole in the "firewall" exits above the cabin but below the windscreen. there is some plastic stuff covering the area above the exit point.

Your can still hear the induction though :mrgreen:

It is getting the air from the same place as the Loch Stewart, Mania and most other CAIs, and that is the area above the firewall and below/in front of the windscreen. The cabin does get it's air from that area, however I am not aware of anyone reporting fumes in the cabin because of this?

Another dumb question :roll:
Is it just a matter of relocating the windscreen washer bottle? Going to do this mod as I notice the performance drop off when it gets hot.

yep you need to move the bottle, that's all. everything else can stay where it is. and then just drill a big hole! be very careful with the positiioning of the hole tho.

As Jules said leaving the airbox in would seem to be a waste of time after doing all the other work.
What are peoples thoughts on the \"Simota Super Power \" filter that's mentioned, They have them at Mania for $75.

The Simota Heat Sheild Filter Is already sealed and I was wondering what peoples thoughts on this filter are.
The air will never be cold but the air under the bonnet is a lot hotter than in front of the windscreen so I think this is a great mod.
He also mentions a larger AFM off a 86-88 RX7, Are these available? Very Expensive?

You could probably pick one up from a wreckers but I'm pretty sure that Matt didn't end up using the bigger AFM as he couldn't get a happy compromise with that setup.

Now that the Jaycar DFA is available though, you could probably get that setup working well but it will involve more money and some tuning.

What he said. Just get a programmable MAP-based ECU and be done with it.

And my $2 bit of pipe with it's restrictive bend lets cold air into the air box which suits me just fine, untill I blow the engine up and have to do a rebuild or transplant.
Sadly MX5 less for a while.

He is suggesting you buy a replacement ECU which will allow you to tune via a MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) Sensor. These take a pressure reading and RPM and add fuel. They DON'T use an AFM (air flow meter - what you have now) which is quite restrictive to airflow.

Hence the comment about turning a $2 mod into a $1500+ project.

Amazing how things get out of control and all I wanted to know was whether the Simota filter was any good.
I think I will get filter from mania and get rid of the airbox and let everyone know whether it's worthwhile :D

Would you still need the afm adaptor plate with the Simota filter?

If so factor in another $20 on top of the filter price.
