Need BIG favour from E-Manage user - borrow link cable

Postby Bevan » Thu Jun 07, 2007 2:26 pm

I've tried several different ways to make a clone cable (bought an aftermarket DKU-5 cable off ebay) and have had no success at all in making the unit appear ONLINE in the Support Tool.

Could someone that doesn't need theirs, lend it to me for about 2 weeks? I've got it hooked up to 12v power (though a computer) at the moment, and just want to connect it to the Support Tool to clear the existing map on it.

After that, I can wire it into the ECU harness and start to lean out/richen the fuel mixture.

Any help would be great.
Cheers,
Bevan :)

Hi Bevan - a couple of obvious/not so obvious questions.....

You have the correct drivers installed on your laptop (for the DKU-Serial cable)?

You have the same port chosen in the support tool as for the DKU cable in the laptop? (windows - check Settings/Devices/Ports and see which one has the DKU attached)

You have the baud rates ok?

You have the laptop on/ignition on/insert cable/check coms ports in that order?

Give that a go - if all else fails I've got a second DKU and USB cable set, not yet attached (I was going to try a DIY) that you could potentially have to try and connect. If you check www.miataturbo.net, there's a guy there called Giff who sells the clone cables for about $60 delivered (from the UK).

Cheers.

Thanks mate,
Yeah, done all of that. Tried 3 different DIY setups, got the correct drivers for the cable (PL2303), played with the comm ports and baud rates for all of the cable varients. I've got my computer wires powering up the emanage at the moment as computer power supplies are 12v output.

I'm looking at buying a genuine DKU-5 cable now and redoing the USB connection just to be sure. I wouldn't want to cut your DKU-5 cable.I have a spare one here as well but it's an aftermarket one too so I doubt it'll work.

I'll keep that guy in the UK in mind. Sounds quite cheap!

Cheers,
Bevan

I already cut the DKU and the USB cables - that's why I offered them :)

Oops, sorry, I missed this one.

Is that a genuine DKU-5 cable or and ebay chinese one? I'd love to try it out if it's a genuine Nokia cable. :D

Also, anyone out there with a tested and working cable? I just need it purely to test that the unit I bought actually works before doing my head in with this cable stuff. :| :)
