Postby Rob E » Mon Jun 04, 2007 10:54 am

Do you use adjustable cam gears?

Thanks
Rob

Didn't need to on mine, but it gives the tuner a few more options depending on where you want the power band. 8)

Thanks Chris, thought that would be the case. Im not likely to go with a Tighe 805 however something similar.

Slightly rougher idle, better midrange but really, not radically different. 8)

No need for cam gears, Rick Shaw did mine and came right back to stock which surprised him. The idle will be rubbish and the fuel use huge, but it delivers hp up to 75-7600rpm vs stock cam, so you'll need a programmable ecu to get anything. That said I can tell you it's worth 7rwkw at peak power which now arrives around 7200 see my sig for the comparison charts. Please PM before you buy
Cheers

Standard cam gears with my tighe cams. Wolf Ecu from Mania. David did the tuning.

Totally smooth idle at 850 to 900rpm. Big increase in power and torque all the way through from idle to 7200rpm where I get 92kw from my 1.8 . But this is a 1.8 conversion, running the 1.6 TB with the Wolf TPS, 1.8 cross pipe and modified 1.8 airbox. X-Force extractors and 2.25inch cat back. It screams from 4500 right through to 7200. Heaps better than standard below 4500rpm. Now that the wolf TPS is installed I have been able to get Closed loop running properly, so now fuel economy isn't an issue either. Been getting help from AEMS in Melbourne with the fine tuning of the closed loop. Excellent support there. New software also helps a lot too.

My idle is only marginally rougher than standard;economy is still very good, consistently better than a standard NB8b on runs together, basically never below 10tl/100klm on the road and mid 8's on a cruise.

Better torque and power from 2500 rpm and heaps more over 4500rpm.right through to 8000 rpm if you want to.

It can still be dríven around town in 4th(60kph) and pull away smoothly.

In my opinion no downside at all and it transforms the 1.8 into the engine it should be.I am running a Microtech piggyback and had Maztech in Melb do the work.

Could not be happier with the results and no I didn't change the cam gears.

David,

Some guys have used tthe 805's with the standard ECU and it has been ok;obviously to get the most performance you need to be able to alter more things, so a piggyback like my microtech( $1100,I think)is better than a standard and a full ECu should be better still.

However I am very happy with what I got (KW)and the way it drives so a lot will be down to the tuner.

Peter.

Why dont you try running them with a Jaycar DFA, with that you will have problems tuning the air fuel ration through the rev range, and its will be alot cheaper.

I have been thinking of buying these cams for a while, and using my dfa to tune them..
