And here's the bad news...

Turned the engine over today and it would start but wouldn't idle or keep running (with some throttle).

I left it with my mechanic as I had a committee meeting.

I've been told that the crank pulley has a wobble.

I'll try and take a look tomorrow after work.

I guess it was lucky I bought the engine from Richard Larsen at MX-5 Plus as it is guaranteed.

The engine was out of an NB that suffered front end damage, wonder if the crank pulley copped part of the knock.

I'll keep you all posted. :(

X 1

Well it wasn't as drastic as it may have been.

There's a plate behind the harmonic balancer that the crank angle sensor reads off, that was bent and one of the \"teeth\" damaged and had begun scoring out the sensor itself.

I placed the plate, harmonic balancer and sensor off my old engine in and she's up and running again.

That makes me much happier.

Thanks for everyone's comments, there's still a few little things to do but it's fantastic to have some MX-5 therapy again.

I'll take some more photos of everything soon.

Well it got a good 300 kms or so today planing a club cruise.

The new engine didn't drink any coolant or leak any oil.

So far so good.

Doing the whole thing again tomorrow, fingers are crossed it's all fine.
