NA front swaybar help

Postby lam.666 » Sat May 12, 2007 5:57 pm

just got the front swaybar off Rob E last night, installed it today but noticed that the left side of the swaybar rests on the upper arm.

driver side is fine with a 2 - 3 mm gap.

i used the bushes it came with, the OEM mounts and OEM links

when mounting the swaybar i wasnt able to adjust any movement of the ends and thought that after i let it down it might magically move in place.. but i was wrong

took it for a drive and it makes a clunking noise with every bump i go over

i think its a whiteline sway bar, does it matter which end goes where, i didnt actually check it for any left / right markings

any help appreciated

heres some pics

Try swapping it around left to right. I wouldn't drive it around like that though. You will damage the wishbones

My workshop manual doesn't mention a left or right side. It might be an idea to take it off and compare it to the original bar to make sure it is the same shape and you dont have an NB bar, which will also fit with a few mods apparently.

It often happens with NAs and that particular Whiteline swaybar. You need a set of shorter end-links. I've got a Whiteline set from Mossy sitting here that I didn't need because mine fitted OK. Almost unused with polyurethane bushes.

$35 inc postage. PM me.

Lam, your car is a japanese import? Just a guess cos I can see little bits of surface rust underneath (from the salted winter roads).

no its not an import

i thought the amount of surface rust for a car this old would be ok...

seems as though everyone who's fitted a 22mm bar has had no problems on an NA... i must be special

hopefully whiteline would be able to compare their bars with mine, or recommend on an endlink setup as the endlinks i got move the bar back and i cant screw in the mount

Could it be the wrong bar for the car - maybe an NB one or something?

Looking at the pics, your right upper control arm is bent to buggery. Fix it.

This very bar came off Mattys NA6 with no fitting probs.

Its either a bent control arm or the bar is bent - and the bar aint bent. I'd reckon the previous owner has put that car into the gutter or a traffic island.

yeah

bar ends are abit longer than the standard bar tho

guess i'll have to find another NA to test fit it to

too bad i missed out on the dodgy day

is anyone organising another one soon?
