Hi.
I'm thinking of getting some r888's for the track instead of ruining a set of Michellin PP2's in 205 45 for the road which I am planning to get for my 16\" wheels shortly.
I have a set of NB8 rims sitting around and doing nothing so thought some 195 50 R888's might go well on those. Alternatively I could buy a set of Mania's cheap 15 x 7's and put 205 50's on them. Would I notice any particular difference between them? (other than less track of the narrower wheels).
Obviously if I don't buy wheels well thats $600 saved and I guess the 195's will be cheaper as well so no bad thing. That said if 205's are worth it then I don't mind spending the $$.
Your thoughts?
Steve

My R888s are 205/50/15 and are on 15x6.5 rims...
Best of both worlds for you Steve; keep your rims (and your money) and get more rubber on the road.

Thanks for that Mate. The NB8 wheels I think are only 6" wide though. Would the 205's create a bit of sidewall bulge and as a result less steering feel?

The NB8a wheels are 6.5 and will fit your tyres fine. And due to the fact that they're smaller, they'll more than likly be lighter.

#35 Someone spent billions building these roads and you have to drive on the grass!
According to this, you can fit 225's on a 6\" wide rim if you're game enough .
205's on a 6.5\" rim would be perfect. I'm running 6\" for my track rims and I'm stuck with 195 tyres. Not willing to try 205 tyres on them, even though I can. How much more grip does 205 tyres have over 195, in terms of R-comp tyres like R888's?

I'm not sure if that's right, but according to that the NB8A rims ('99-2002 Sport 5-spoke alloy) are indeed 15X6.

Yep as far as I know they are as well. They are in my parents garage about 100k's away so not a quick check!

Well, in that case, forget I spoke!
But, if you're going to buy rims - 15x 6.5 will most likely be lighter!
