Rolled Guards

Postby Nickb » Fri May 18, 2007 1:57 am

G'Day,

I'm looking at getting my front guards rolled as the 17\" rims that I have rub a bit (yes, I know they are too big....). Been told by my local panel beater that the metal is quite thin so after rolling I may need to get the guards resprayed. Is this usually a problem?? Are there are different ways to get the guards rolled? I've basically been told that they use a dolly and hammer to fold in the lip, is that right? I thought there was actually a machine that actually \"rolled\" the lip?

Car is an NA6.....

Yeah, it scrubs over bumps. Left hand side is worse as it looks like someone has tried to bend the lip outwards and has made it worse... Suspension is standard (although old...), Tein Flexes are going in shortly, so it'll be lower....

Interesting on that site it talks about using a machine, thats what I would expect. May have to ask around a few other shops, just that this shop is only 50m from my house!

most wheel shops have them
they just bolt to your hub
and have a skate board wheel that runs around the inside gently folding the lip up

of note many places have them but most try to do it to fast and bite into the guard to far causing the cracking of the paint

your 17's shouldn't be rubbing though with stock suspension
i have mine lowered on 17's and i have onyl had problems when it was lower than it is now

What offset are the wheels?
as that could be the problem

I don't know the offset (can't see it marked on the rims), but it ain't standard.... definately part of the problem. Would like to change the rims, but with forking out for the Teins, it may have to wait... they do look good though.

Just found a mobile guy who will come out and do it with the proper tooling. $150 for the front guards, see how it goes.

i have 18s on the front and no need to roll fronts.
offset and width of the rim are your bigest concerns.
keep offset to +40 and width to tno more than 7.5 inhes 8s scrub like hell.
i also have mine lowered 1.5 inches on front which is perfect for 18s.

Guard roller.... dont know where your from but go see Ozzy tyres in hoxton 50 a gaurd and they know whwat they are doing
