Paint Prep for textured lower side skirt

Just out of curiosity, how would one go about preparing the lower side skirt so that it is ready for painting? How do you prep a surface which is textured like the lower side skirt? Has anyone done this before. I have a bit of paint peel on the right skirt behind the wheel on the textured surface and wouldnt mind giving it a crack. If all goes wrong then ive got a mate you can spray it properly. I dont mind a bit of DIY, just not sure about sanding etc on a textured surface.

what ever you do will take alot of patience!

I sanded mine but i have all the right tools to do it

you can use paint striper (if i ever had to do it again i would use this option)
I didn't know how hard it was going to be etc so it was sort of a wait and see

can be done though

Its actually a rubberised stone guard coating

if you are only talking about the black part then you can get away with a decent wet and dry finish and paint over

If you are talking about further up etc like the doors then thats where the paint stripper is needed

its the section directly above the black strip on the bottom of the skirt. It is slightly textured. If i were to strip the paint of the damaged section, then re-prime the area, how would i go about sanding in between coats to get a smooth, lightly textured finish as normal without sanding away the texture?

You cant just do a section ie lift part of the textured finish then paint over as it will leave a edge to the paint
if the original paint has blistered you need to 'pop the bubble' and feather down the edge to the affected area

then get some of the textured finish pretty sure you can get it in a can from auto barn or similar and reapply with a brush or sponge

as its textured its fairly easy to blend it

if the paint hasnt blistered then you can rub back gently without breaking the top colour coat and re prime & paint

what is the damage you speak of?
is it paint damage or something more like something has hit the door sill?

the previous owner took a light hit to the drivers door and front quarter panel. Door was replaced, front quarter was resprayed but only from the textured surface down. must have been a bodgy job coz now the paint has peel quite bad. see pics

I think ill be getting it professionally done. Just went and looked at the touch up paint where i got keyed and the colour is off (a couple of shades to bright). Got it from Autobarn (powerplus stuff). Probably is the right colour, problem is i have 15 years of paint fade!
