Toyo T1R first impressions

I got the T1Rs put on today, I was tossing up between them and Proceda PP2 but for the $91 difference per tyre I just couldn't justify it as I am only a poor uni student.

Firstly we felt the sidewalls of them and of the Potenzas and the toyos are incredibly soft in comparison, and it certainly shows too. Even pumping them up to 40psi they are very squirmy compared to the Potenzas at 28psi, the tread also has very deep narrow blocks which I think squirm quite a bit.

Apart from teh sidewalls they seem pretty darn sticky, though I havn't given them a good go yet, taking it easy on them for a bit.

The car is now heaps lighter to steer, both at 30psi then lighter again at 40psi, I don't know if that is a good or a bad thing? That worries me a little. It is really like putting power steering on, a huge difference.

What sort of pressure do you guys run in them? Mine are 205/50 15 btw

$91 per tyre difference? Must be the size of the tyre. I'm after 195/50R15's. I got a quote from Bob Jane for the PP2's for $175 per tyre. Tyrepower sells the T1R's for $150 per tyre. Both include balance and fitting. For the extra $25 per tyre, I was leaning towards the PP2's from what ppl have posted about the two tyres.

desertfox, I got the Michelin PP2s (195/50/R15) for $150 each at Bob Jane Brookvale.
Look for David and tell him Andy (the guy with the red MX5) sent you.
They fitted the PP2s on my car last Monday and I am happy with them.

Most tyre joints I rang wouldn't even answer the phone, the only prices I got on the pp2's one from bobjane, and one from the michelin dealer wer both far in excess of $200. Trying to get tyres around here that arent simex, nankang etc is like trying to draw blood from a stone in most instances. The shops just don't seem to be interested in selling you anything.

I went through exactly the same thing when I was looking for new tires, zoomzoom
There is a post of my rants/whinging somewhere in the 'Tyres' thread in this section of the forum
The respective dealers are only interested in the flagship brand that they carry and rubbish everything else
I've been suggested with Nankangs (NS2), Hankooks (104), Continentals (ContiComfortPlus1), Michelins (PP2), Toyos (T1R), Yokohamas (C-Drive, S-Drive) and Pirellis (P6000) before settling down for a Michelin PP2

I just had mind fitted 205-45-16 $185 from tyrepower made in Japan in 07
PP2s were $250 and c drives $245. It was raining and school was out (4wd's and school kids everywere) so will try them out on the weekend
