Rattle, where is this coming from?

Postby franjae » Thu May 10, 2007 10:34 pm

Hi guys,

I have an NB8B that's done 98K. When the car is under a little stress, like in a higher gear than it should, there's a rattle. It is definitely not pinging, not a clicking sound, but rattle.

Is it the bearing? How should i go about getting to the bottom of this? I have never heard what a rattle from bearing failure before. Other than this, the car runs and revs beautifully. Are these engines prone to bearing failure. I'll go check the exhaust to see if there's anything loose that could cause that sound.

What do you reckon??

thanks,

Probably a loose exhaust shield somewhere. Around the header is the easiest and first place to check. Put your car on jack stands and tighten up all the heat shield blts along the exhaust and check for cracks and leaks.

Make sure the car hasn't been dríven... :)

Thanks Bevan,

Hope that is the cause of it. Definitely easier to fix than a bearing issue. Fingers crossed!!

Will let you know once I've had a chance to have a look.

Cheers
