Front indicator plastic cover

Postby phaedo » Sun May 06, 2007 10:07 pm

Hey guys and gals,
So a week or so ago I was hit going through an intersection. Anyway, the bumper needs repainting and the drivers side plastic cover for the indicator and park light smashed. I have been through the insurance company and all that, but my rego is due this week, who knows how long it will take before I can get it all fixed. The quote from the panelbeaters was $270ish for a new light fitting as they would replace the whole thing. However, since I need it for rego this week, anywhere I can just get the plastic? It appears to be stuck on as a whole unit, which would be why the have to replace the whole thing I guess. Do these get made??
Don't want to be having to walk for 2 weeks while I am waiting for it to get sorted out...
Cheers all.

I have no idea who the seller is, or what condition the light is in but $85 is cheaper than $270

I'm thinking that the car would be at the panel beaters for a week (or more) for the repairs. over which time you will probably need other means to get to work? So could you not drop it off for repairs and then get it rego'd??? That way it forces you to have fixed sooner rather than later.

just my 2.2 cents worth (GST included).

ps this post does not take into consideration any extenuating circumstances that I am not aware of....and fastfreedys post is a good idea as well.

$270ish for the light means that the panel beater is paying way too much for his parts or he's just trying to make a shitload of money out of you.

retail for the front bumper lights is $170 each for genuine Mazda bits.
that's for a complete light, i don't know of anyone who sells the lenses as a seperate piece.

To answer some questions - if the panelbeater can get a replacement bumper rather than having to send mine away first, it will only be off the road overnight, otherwise about 4 days. Second, I am waiting for the insurance company to get organized - they were supposed to call me Friday, and now I will be chasing them up today. Until it is all booked in, I would rather keep driving it. It is down to the insirance company when I am taking it in and all that at this stage. I had 2 quotes from panelbeaters and they both gave the same cost for the part - I went in to Mazda today and they said about $170 for it, so yes, I am wondering what sort of a racket they are running at panel beating shops...
I am not too worried really about when I get it fixed, can hardly see the damage, but for rego I need the light fixed. Obviously I would like it done sooner than later, but if it is going to have to sit at a panelbeaters for 2 weeks before it is looked at I would rather be driving.
