\"clunking noise\" from right rear end

Hey its a long shot I know just wondering if anyone has experienced a clunking noise from around the rear wheels when cornering or going over bumps?
I notice a few posts down from this Bevan has a similiar problem

How do you know if the bushes are gone? I hear a \"clunk\" coming from the rear when I go over inperfections in the road (those black silicone strips, covered up potholes etc.)

Garry mentions it is probably the rear brake pads rattling in the callipers

I first noticed it going around corners now though its any bump in the road if it was a fwd car id be certain it was a CV joint - very much that noise...
any help greatly appreciated

I have a similar clunking noise too....found the problem though.....check your exhaust near the rear.....mine moves from side too side when i hit bumps a certain way.

mmm that could be it actually from memory some of the rubber clasps under there were starting to look a bit over worn....
likely a cheap fix too
will have to check it out over the next few days...

My right rear used to clunk when i first got the car. I found out that when the king springs were put in, some guy had cross threaded the main nut on the shock shaft when putting it all back in. I pushed up and down on the back of the car a few times, leaned into the open boot, and looked at the top to the shock. There was about 5mm travel in the right shock shaft, which was causing the clunking noise.

So had to remove the shock, re-tap the thread on the shaft, and put it all back in. Ive never had a problem since.

I had a noise like that. Check all your allingment bolts . maybe one of them is loose.
also check your sway bar. if the bushes are worn. this could be it too.


basically go over the rear end thouroughly to find a loose bolt somewhere.

I had one of those clunks for a few months. The allingment bolt was loose.

you know the rear one where they adjust the camber.

sounds like a fun few hours.. might try each one starting with the easiest working to the most difficult...
just need to hope I find it earlier then later

Just love it when it all comes together
I must have done something right by the car gods... maybe they have been spying into boxes of turbo goodies sitting in the garage...
was just the final two rubber hanger hooks on the exhaust
Pretty happy I replaced them as didn't think it was that bad under there...
its all good and 'clunk' free now..
just thought I would share - might be of some use to future searchers
