New Bling steering wheel, is it legal

i just bought a new steering wheel for the mx. the outta dimensions of the steering wheel is 350 appose to the standard 370, is this legal to change it?

That is the same wheel that Ben has in his striped beast. Nice wheel! Nice choice.
As for the legal stuff....just ring up the RTA or suss out their website to determine the minimum diameter a wheel needs to be.
Here in mexico I think it is 330mm (or is it 320mm?)??

I also remember reading somewhere here that if your OEM wheel had a centre pad, the replacement must too??

Steering
As with suspension systems, a vehicle’s steering system is vital for safety and vehicle manufacturers make considerable
efforts to develop suitable steering geometry. Where any non standard part is used, owners are advised to seek the
assistance of an engineering signatory to assess the structural integrity of the steering system and the adequacy of the
steering geometry under all conditions of steering and suspension movement.
Steering components are fundamental to vehicle safety. Always avoid cutting, welding (or otherwise hot working)
any forged steering components such as pitman arms, drag links or steering knuckles.
Where ADRs 10A, 10B, 10/00 or 10/01 apply, the vehicle’s steering column and steering wheel are designed to
minimise injury to the driver during a crash. In the case of replacement steering wheels (including aftermarket
steering wheels fitted with airbags), owners should seek assurance from the supplier or an engineering signatory that
the vehicle continues to comply with these requirements.
The diameter of the steering wheel affects the driver’s control of the vehicle. A reduction in the steering wheel
diameter will result in increased steering effort and “kick back” from road bumps.
Vehicle Standards Bulletin No. 4 issued by the Department of Transport & Regional Services (DOTARS) covers
conversion requirements for left hand to right hand drive.

hmm, maybe this is why a replacement instrument pod cluster is matt black these days, instead of the gloss black of the original version. i always thought it was strange that they changed that.

why is it so odd. It just took a while to come to thier senses.

if it came from ther factory like that they will not change it. Just like the seatbelt thing on older cars. If the car did not have seatbelts in standard trim you do not have to install them. (however if you have fitted a set you must wear them.)

One day the design rules change. anything after that date has to be according to the design rules. anything before that they can't change.

Wish you could get an airbag wheel like that that would fit on the 5.

As an aside.
Companies like Momo etc. must be upset with the new airbag steering wheels, as you can't really change them over and the market for aftermarket wheels must have gone down quite a bit since airbags were introduced.
