i belive the rx7 box install can be done for under 5k easily, whereas the 5speed quafie set is 2.8k US and although the gear set is very strong it will break eventually, and i know i'd rather replace an RX7 box than a quafie gear set!!! once the conversion is done its just the price of an RX7 box any time you break it, not the 2.8k plus the price of another MX5 box. (when the quafie gear set breaks it'll most likely be due to the housing cracking/exploding which will destroy the box and gears)
The way i would do it is cut and weld the bell housing and ppf mount off the MX5 box onto the RX7 unit, then shorten the PPF and tailshaft to match and change the center section on the clutch. Makes it much easier. Then if it breaks you can change the internals in the MX-7 hybrid box.
Dave
PS you gotta add in the shipping costs and install costs to the quafie set

well... answers to above questions...
*its B6 turbo and i have around 180rwkw and use it for drifting.
*Standard 5spds dont hold up.
*6spd might hold up a bit longer but perhaps not the be all and end all.
a quafie set is expensive... 2800? plus tax, shipping, currency converstion, and labour to install it into the gearbox.
Ive herd of rx7 gearbox's being made to fit in to mx5 hence asking the question of how its done.
Osgekin gear sets havent got a very good rep with me, they do break. my brothers FD rx7with 200rwkw blew 3rd gear just accelrating on the racetrack. also a friends 180sx with sr power broke 2nd drifting.
Im trying to keep my options open at the moment to see whats the go and price wise
