help! removing aircon compressor - bolts stuck

Postby Fatty » Wed Apr 18, 2007 8:13 pm

i'm trying to remove the aircon pump / compressor thing from the front of the engine. it's held on to the bracket by 4 bolts / screws. got the top 2 loose eventually, with a bit of wd40. can't get the bottom 2 to budge tho. they are stuck tight :(

any tips here guys? i've been trying and i've started to round off the edges on one the bolts so i'm gonna give up for now until i have some new method to try.

also, had a look at the belt that drives it and it's in really bad shape! chunks torn out of it etc. suppose i shoul get a new one eh? any tips in fitting the new belt ?

1. Glad to see you have lost your skirt and started to get the ball rolling.

2. Have you removed the undertray to attack those two bolts from the bottom? That's how I got to mine.

3. Have you got power steering? If you do, I don't know how to change the belt. If you don't, undo the 14mm nut on the front of the tensioner pulley and then unwind the 10mm bolt on top. Easy.

So, does this mean you are drilling the sump? 8)

i don't have power steering. thanks for the tip, sounds easy enough. just gotta get a new belt then!

Is it that the bolts won't spin?

Have you tried more leverage from a tube or breaker bar? They're very long bolts so you'd have to mistreat them quite badly to snap them.
