While I haven't had any problems with the diff or crank, it has been reported that I don't have a standard diff. So I am just going to assume that either a) the diff cracked and was replaced with a viscous, or b) my car has been in some crazy ass accident and the diff was snapped (one of the first things to go in a crash yes?)
hopefully it is a...

Haven't had the short nose problem... But it's only a matter of time before the diff packs up and goes to the great junk yard in the sky!

Not had a problem with either the crank or the diff - but the car has only done 60,000km so I wouldn't expect any problems yet.
I replaced the crank bolt a couple of months ago and used my dentists mirror to inspect the thread, key & keyway - looked brand new, no elongation of the threads or bruising of the keyway. So I torqued up the new bolt with the appropriate Loctite and left it for another year before I repeat the procedure.
