Buckled Rims?? :-(

Hey Y'all!

Firstly, i think i buckled my front rims last night...
Having a fang on a back street, locked up coming to a T intersection...
Which had a draining dip thing running through it... the front end 'bounced' out of it, now there is a slight clunk which varies with speed :-(

Does it sound like the rims are buckled? If so, where abouts in the Hornsby-ish area could i get them repaired? and possibly and approx price?

PS the NA6 is lowered on Eibachs and has NB rims (dont know if that makes any diff?)

I had a NB8A rim with slight damage from a pothole repaired and it cost me approx $200

I bought and sold a complete set of NB8A rims for $350 with tyres. Might be a cheaper way of doing it if you can find some.... but I guess you need them soon :(

not really worth repairing rims in my opinion.... new rims/tyres can be had for so cheap. but repairing each rim usually costs around $200.

one of my wheels was buckled so hard when i got it. the whole car would shake in a straight line and jump a bit. got it fixed at the local goodyear...paid $180

I just called the local Jax, they said they send em away, but a rough cost of $130 i didnt think was too excessive... HOWEVER...

They would need them for roughly a week :-(

Just took it down to JAX... it appears that my lock-up just put a HUGE flat spot on the tyres! I am a seriously happy lad today!

No damage, plus an excuse to get new fronts!

I would have said flat-spots first, buckles second.

ask them for a wheel to put on in the mean time. Goodyear sent mine away and gave me a wheel to put on mine whilst it was away being done by some other company.

Yes, must have been going quite a rate of knots.

They can buff flat spots out if they're not too bad (they just grind the whole tyre down till the spot is gone). Or you could drive for 6 months and they should wear flush.

Kimi Raikonnen - Catastrophic tyre failure from delamination due to tyre flat spot...

OK so we'll NEVER reach F1 speeds in an MX5... :mrgreen:
