That's right I'm doing a new one again
i'm on hols for a week so i have started, the problem with the old one was the lack of air circulation in the boot, with no fresh air circulating it was getting too hot in there and after about 1 hour at highish volume my amp would start overheating and clipping a bit as well as some static, something had to be done
so i'm moving the amp to behind the passenger seat (a common install for the mx5) a bit worried about security but not too much i'll see how stealth i can make it
basically i'm using the same amp as before but getting rid of the 6x9's (maybe, might just use one of my spare amps for them) as now i have 2 subs to install
i'm going to have pics of the steps i went though for the install
if someone else wants my old install then let me know (all it will be is the false floor for the boot and maybe the 6x9's with enclosure as well because now I have 2 subs)
on another note now i know why weight reduction is such a bit thing for our cars, driving around with nothing in my boot and no passenger seat in it seemed as though the car was faster (maybe it's just me )
should be done by about wednesday

Thats funny u say you have problems with high volume after an hour. I have the amp for my front speakers, plus the sub in my boot. They get warm, but I've only gotten the thermal switch to cutout on the sub once, and that was when a bag was on top of the amp (by accident). What size amp are you running? My sub is a 2x100w (bridged to 250w), and my speakers are a 2x80w, both response brand

yea i'm using the response one as well a 4x100WRMS one (see my sig) not sure why it is but it is
hmm i guess i can only hope it's the amp
i'll know in a few days though
or it could be a problem with the battery not holding a stable voltage after being on charge from the alternater for too long hmmm might get a new batt as well within the next few weeks
also was that u i saw at about 12:30-1am on a friday morning as i got off the train at wahroonga a few weeks ago??? and u got over 190kw at the rears now that's insane must be hard to drive in the wet well no sideways at least

Bugger. Didn't get to see the original install in the flesh. Oh well.
I haven't had any problems with overheating, but considering I'm only running a 2 channel amp bridged to run my Sub (can't remember the power...), and it's not ever cranked to fulleh sik levels.
What are you planning for getting some airflow into the boot?

I have 2 amps in the boot a 150wrms 4 channel bridged to the front spekers so it is supplying 2 x 75wrms for the front speakers and a 200wrms 4 channel for the rears giving out 2 x 100wrms both with the gain turned right up and havn't had any problems with heat yet.
Did you try turning your music down a bit?

noone else ever gets to drive my car, the only time someone has was my dad who drove it home for me after i bought it (I'd never dríven manual until i got my 5) just don't trust anyone else enough

I was going to move the 6x9's to the rear firewall thing but cbf doing it so they are still replacing the windblocker right now
install is all finished now and it works well, fans are quiet and can't be heard when the music is on and i have them working off a relay from the amp so they are only on when the amp is turned on tonight after about an hour of playing at relatively high volume (was on the freeway) the amp was nice and cool and i had no annoying static feedback as well
i'll try and get some pics later
only thing left to do now is just to take the layer of papery stuff off the perspex
might also look at getting some quick connectors so I can remove the amp and crossovers easily but that's a job for another day

I also used to having my amp in the boot cut out, but only after a couple of hours of solid music, and when the boot was full of crap.
I've moved the amp to the tunnel between the boot and the cabin, on the driver's side, and it hasn't overheated since.
Don't forget about the space between the fuel tank and the body, between the boot and the main cabin, as it is a really good place to put amps and things like that.
You may need to use a long, narrow amp to fit in there, but it keeps the amps out of the way and gives you loads more boot space.

What amp do you have that fits into that little section? I've been contemplating (ie searching to no avail) getting one in there to run the factory bose speakers and see how that sounds.
