Personally I wouldn't bother with a powered antenna based on my past experience with them. With a bigger diameter they attract dirt faster. OK, you can clean and lubricate it regularly but the grits will get into the gaps causing problems. Sooner than later, it will get to a stage when it will not extend or retract fully. More headaches for what it's worth. Besides, I don't mind the RC look of the stock antenna.

reading this thread got me off this computer chair and out in to the garage just now. I just hacked my atenna down to a much shorter size and painted it black. WIll see if it still holds a good signal soon when the paint dries.

This is the one I picked up from work a couple of weeks ago for my car, I reckon it was ok, and around $12 from memory, I'm sure you should be able to find similar ones at most car shops.

I'm using one of these retractable antennas..http://www.aerpro.com.au/p.php?pcode=AP64&cat_no=13 it required a bit of cutting of the antenna's plastic sleeve at the bottom which cant be seen anyway. They should cost around $10.. you can also find this in another brand in Kmart or BigW in a different brand and i think they're even cheaper than the Aerpro brand..
