Advice on Dorian Timers

Hey Guys,

I have to get a Dorian Timer for my car. Last time I was at QR we borrowed one and it was one of those little black boxes which wasn't much bigger than a matchbox. Someone said to me that they were designed for motorbikes but it worked fine on the car. The other model I saw was the bigger lunchbox type timers which apparently were the older model.

My question is, do I need to get the bigger one because it's designed for cars or can I use the smaller model?

Smaller one is what you want. The big ones were the first version released, they still sell them because so many cars still have brackets for them. The small one has to be mounted with a clear path down and forward to the road to work well. Talk to CT or Cal and see where they mounted theirs before you do it. Also, bargain hard when buying - there are discounts to be had

The small one is the one you want. They were designed for SuperKarts.

We just mount them in the front radiator opening.

What do you need the dorian for at QR? They only use them for Cams Events?

Front bumper I hear you say....tsk tsk...the cams manual used to say passenger side of car floor, not forward of the front axle line but I just had a look and can't find it in the online manual so maybe it's changed. Yep, they are a rip off. I need a new one at the moment too....last time it was around $500. The little one is simple to mount - the big one sucked so yep, get the small one.

Small one is about $450 and I'm sure I tried for a discount and he just laughed.

I did a group buy deal for the Historic guys - we got them down to $350 and they would have gone lower if one of my collegues hadn't jumped the gun :evil:

We were talking to an alternative supplier too, so Dorian basically said they'd match any deal the other guys did - the other guys eventually came down to around $250 :shock:

Our problem was the few guys who already had dorians and didn't want to buy new timers, so in the end we were stuck with dorian. There are other timers out there that are much better than theirs for less money, but CAMS sold the farm to dorian way back...

As a comparison, we tested the other timers by placing them on the inside of the passengers door in sports and touring cars, and in the cockpit of single seaters and had 100% success - dorians must be outside the bodywork and have clear line of sight forwards to the road to work well.

Anyway, as you are stuck with dorians, could I suggest a group buy might help - CT wants a new one, and there are new cars being built so maybe you could save a few bucks??

You will be when you beat someone by a nose over the line!!!!! I can't find it either. Only reference is that you can remove metal in cockpit area on 2B rules..

I've been told I need a Dorian for the QR Championship Series.

I am also getting one of these as basically in non cams events it still helps out
the timing tower 100 % and your times are going to dead acurate and not
done by hand !!!! I think i was quoted $429
