Removing Air-conditioning

Postby MX5-SP » Tue Apr 03, 2007 9:59 pm

...Just a general question (...mainly for SP owners).

Does anyone have any stats on performance increases if the a/c system is removed from the SP? the only time I ever use it is when I have the hard-top on (...which seems to be rare these days) or when it's raining (it IS a good de-fogger). But truth is I tend to run only because I have to...i.e. once a week for about 10 mins just to lubricate it.

...is it worth the trouble of de-installing the entire kit?

...any thoughts?

Not worth the hassle and loss of comfort imo... While the a/c isn't running, the power loss wouldn't be too significant. If you're really chasing hard for the extra few kw, then sure, ditch it, but otherwise....
Pain is temporary, quitting lasts forever.

totally!

i reckon the benefit would be so negligible that you could get twice as much benefit for a fraction of the cost / hassle by focusing on other areas for improvements.

unless you are a running a 100% track car, leave that aircon in there!

ALRIGHT ALREADY!

...It sounds like a generally BAD idea (...but thanks for the comments). On the way back to the fridge for a quick top-up, I suddenly saw the illogic of the idea.

If you take your ac belt off you should notice the additional power gain (if any).

The weight saving of the whole system is only around 10Kg...
(I could shed that weight if i donated my love handles  )

Keep it. 8)
Huh?
