fitting all parts from a 2000 NB8C to a 1989 NA6CE

Hi Forumnites,

I am looking to buy a 2000 NB8C front cut with all the goodies and just wanted to know if everything is a direct fit into a 1989 NA6CE, particularly:

1. the engine, transmission, and driveline? The NB8C I am after is a 6 speed manual gearbox.

2. Does the dash and door trims, console, etc fit?

3. Can the ABS and airbag systems be brought over?

4. Does the front fender, bonnet, lights, etc fit without too much modification?

5. Has anyone done this before? And any tips?

A quick reply would be handy!!!!

dash door trims and console should fit. big job tho.

very much doubt that bonnet/ guards / lights etc will fit.

engine tran and drivelien should fit i guess, so long as you get the nb8c ecu and loom.

dunno about abs stuff.

i hope you have a lot of spare time on your hands. this sounds like one very massive headache to me!

yes,

but since my NA6CE is gutless, I really need a big transplant and overhaul. Will also look at a Jackson Supercharger kit from the US.

As for the headache, that's what the local mechanic is for...hehe..

As for $$$, well, by deciding to invest in my MX5, I had already committed myself into a blackhole....

Any other comments from anyone? I need all the help I can with this one...

Gaurds wont fit due to the door's haveing a different curve, you'll have to cut and weld the fronnt half of the NB quater panel to the rear half of the NA panel. If you want some tips on this call Richard from MX5plus. He's done a NB front conversion to an NA. Mechanicals will be the easiest part of the job, ecu and loom will be a bit of a bitch to wire up!!!

It really doesn't sound like you are enjoying the experience of owning an MX5. Are you sure you want to spend the same amount again that you have already spent on the car to do this. The whole point of the car is open top motoring and if you don't like the car for this then I suggest you sell it and start again with something else. Loose less money as well.

i don't think you'll ever be happy with your current car until you spend excessive money & by then you'll realise you should of just bought an NB instead with less money overall..

even if you get the engine into the NA6, you still got to decide on a bigger brake swap/driveline/gearbox & get a nice paint job(?).

yep and even then, the nb motor won't get you much more power. a bit, but not much. i'm pretty sure it would be a hell of a lot cheaper and easier to turbo yr na6, and you'd get much more power.

Agree on that. Turbo, nice wheels, bigger brakes, better suspension and maybe a new paint job. That's what I call fun 8)

what you could do is buy the wreck anyway. sell all the bits & finance your Turbo conversion for your NA6.
or sell both your car & car bits & buy yourself an NB if thats what you want.
A lot of the bits of the NB will fit the NA.


Be aware though. This wreck you are buying could well be a NB8A ....not the NB8C you think you are buying.

Interesting thread.

I agree with what's being said. If I were u, if your crank is ok just keep your 1.6, spend the money on turbo'ing it and upgrading the sussy and brakes.

thanks all for your comments.

The reason why I was thinking of this half-cut transplant was that I was going to put a Jackson Supercharger kit from the US on the 1.6L, but since I was going to spend this kinda dough, I may as well supercharge a 1.8L engine.

So, I gather that the consensus is to turbo the 1.6L. Ok, another question, what's better? Supercharging or turbocharging?

I heard that it would take me a lot more hassle to turbocharge than to supercharge as the turbo bolt-on's run on a whimpy boost. can anyone clarify/confirm/recommend?
