I don't think so, but I'm not sure.

Probably, with enough time and $$$.

Depends on what you see as "worth". The MX5 handles better than the AWD Familia, but it would be a hellavalot of fun to have an AWD MX5.

Awww, softy! :D

Anything is possible, but for arguements sake no it can't be done.

Famila/Laser TX3's are latitudinally mounted engine and gearbox so not a hope in hell without tubing framing the entire front end.

could sposedly be done to a Capri though. if a fwd laser can be converted to the TX3 AWD form of the same era (the person who did it wouldn't ever try it again so he says) then so should a capri since those share the same chassis, engine etc.

i'd like to see an AWD MX-5 though, thats not just a shell on top of some other 4WD platform

Don't do it. Waste of time, waste of money. Why?

  • Sump is incompatible
  • intake faces the wrong way
  • exhaust faces the wrong way
  • turbo faces the wrong way
  • BPT/B6T uses a distributor, not a CAS
There are more issues but I can't think of them at the moment.

You'd basically be tossing everything bar the head, block and injectors.. and well, you may as well start with any old MX-5 block in that case.

You missed the question Sabre. He wants to transplant the 4WD running gear into an MX5. Not just use the engine.

Yes it is possible!

I have only seen it rolling not actually working

this was about 6-7 years ago

guy down here bought an mx5 chassis and had it nearly set up with engine running in it etc

the front had been substantially modified as engine ran E-W
damn lot of work!

dunno what ever happened to it the guy was a bit of a toy king so it probably sitting in a shed some where half completed

it was mainly for hill climbs etc but one of his wishes was road registrtion!
