How could they defect your audio system?

I too am a P plater in NSW... and don't see that happening... nor have I heard of it happening

They can't. The only thing they could do is give a fine for being a disturbance if you go around playing it waaayyyy to loud... I think.

The only way they can defect your system is if it is badly integrated into the car.
Eg: amps not fused or secured properly within the cabin (boots ok)...

I have seem quite a few installs which have needed more work to rectify compared to what would have been needed from scratch.

There is also the instance where if you remove sheetmetal form the vehicle which will affect its rigidity or structural integrity then you will need engineering certificates to justify the mods.

There's a noise level that can be exceeded from outside the vehicle, but I doubt the cops would have a dB meter handy to go "oh, you're over the legal limit, here's a fine".

What do you and SM have for bass response atm? No doubt your mids and highs will be tight, but surely the bass must be a bit lacking? Or have I just forgotten what you have to take up the bass?

yeah bass is lacking, thats why i want to get myself a sub and amp to have a nice package the spx137a speakers are designed to work with subs hence very low bottom end, the tweeters in the other hand are tip top

my bass is good mainly depends on the type of music is playing
it's not as good as if I had a sub but I'm sure I could get alot more bass if I used the internal amp crossovers for the 6x9's
Crocaine has heard mine so I guess he would have an unbiased view

and I would worry, If I drove around with mine turned to about 25-30 then complaints would be made but then after a few minutes I wouldn't be able to hear anything either might be overkill but better to have more power than you need then not enough right

The loudest I can have mine is about 25, but only when I'm in motion and the top is off so I can hear it. Otherwise, for general driving around I've got it on about 10-15. Of course this conversation is completely arbitrary since it depends on our head units etc

I really need to find a way of getting my 6x9s somewhere into the cabin. I'm losing out on a lot of the mid since I'm running the stock bose fronts, which are great for high end, but have nothing in the middle. The sub takes up all my bass, so that's not really the problem, although I still feel like I'm wasting a lot of the bass out the boot lid, even though I get good bass response.

In NSW the law (introduced to Parliament by the Hon Member for Vaucluse, Peter Debnam!) is as follows:

Causing or permitting offensive noise to be emitted from a motor vehicle sound system Two demerit points in addition to a $150/$200 fine (can be enforced by Council/EPA/Police officers).

Noise from vehicle sound systems:
Sound systems that can produce very high levels of sound are often fitted to vehicles. Of particular concern are the low frequency noise levels generated when music is being played. Low frequency noise (or booming
noise) can penetrate buildings more easily than high frequency or mid-frequency noise and annoy surrounding residents, vehicle drivers and pedestrians.
Clauses 17 and 17A of the Regulation contain penalties for offensive noise produced by vehicle sound systems. As a guide, if the sound can be clearly heard outside the vehicle and contains low frequency noise, it is likely to be offensive.
Offensive noise is defined as noise:
(a) that by reason of its level, nature, character or quality, or the time at which it was made or any other circumstance:
(i) is harmful to (or is likely to be harmful to) a person who is outside the premises from which it is emitted, or
(ii) interferes unreasonably with (or is likely to interfere unreasonably with) the comfort or repose of a person who is outside the premises from
which it is emitted.

So your freindly bobby doesn't need a dB meter - just his word against yours.

What a crock... I always thought there was a (arbitrarily assigned) dB level?

Oh well. I don't really know of anyone who's been done for having an uber loud stereo, and although mine's up, it's not hugely up (usually).

You don't need to worry anyway. If your audio setup is still not bass heavy yet, you shouldn't have a problem. It seems that law or whatever it is, is aimed at those with subs being fulleh sick mate (although I'd be in that group according to them )

The friendly cops around Brighton Le Sands will ping you for your loud stereo if they are having one of their regular \"hoon\" crackdowns. That law was introduced following complaints from the locals and resturaunt patrons about excessive noise from \"hoons\" cruising the area. There are even signs nailed onto light poles around there reminding people of the law.
