Gear Shift Boot Replacement

Postby Greg Roberts » Sun Mar 25, 2007 9:30 pm

My gearbox boot to the gearshift is broken. Have the replacement part.

Problem is i can't work out how to get the black outer shaft off the inner metal shaft (this is needed to get the new boot on.

>>Anyone have to do this ? Hints ?

(tied vice grips to unscrew top, doesn't budge)

My Mazda Manual does not seem to cover it

Thanks !!

You don't need to remove it. Just put a small drop of oil inside the new boot and it will slide down over it. Yes the hole looks small but it easily stretches and goes back to the right size.
It's how I did mine.
