I have to ask....why would you want to do this?

Base models in the USA came with wind ups from memory on the early NA6's, so if your heart is set on going this way, then perhaps a specialised US wrecker may be able to assist

Manual winders

For rally I dont need electric windows cause they fail when put up and down at the start and end of every stage and they drain the battery of power that i would rather use for my spotlights

Hi buddy, I can't help you with the window winders but I am sure keen to see yor rally car and see how it goes. Is it near complete or still in early stages of development? It would be great if you could post some pics up, at least for me, as most people's reaction the the thought of an mx5 for a rally car was not so great.

Good luck with the window winders, I reckon you have the right idea there, save a little weight too.

mx5rally, yes you can get them. From memory (when I looked into this a long time ago), the lack of real estate on the door was an issue. By the time you added a pocket for the nav (for road cards etc), and left room for the side intrusion, it made getting at the winders tough. I even contemplated running loops for the door grabs rather than the std trim.

My old car was sold to the Thompsons in Tassie (the Aussie Class one from the early 2000s), and the last I heard he had turned it into a dirt car with some whopping cage and street sedan style body. But I don't think it ever turned a wheel in anger.

i just took mine off altogether, didn't bother with loops or anything. i just grab the door handle, window or the a-frame to pull the door shut. best mod i ever did! so much more legroom, i can really stretch out in there now, and no more bruises on my right knee! :D
