Just ordered Toyo Proxes 4

So I just ordered a set of Toyoo Proxes 4 in 205/45/ZR16. I have read very good reviews about them all around the world. I know a few people on here have the Toyo Proxes T1R and love them. The Proxes 4 are 1 step lower than the T1R but still have great performance and very good wear. A mixture of both was important to me as my car is a daily driver.

I spoke to a guy from Tyrepower Hornsby called Sujith who gave me the lowest price up front ($139 per corner, $556 all up). I got a few more prices and only 1 place was the same (Tyrepower McGraths Hill). I rang Sujith back and told him and he came back with a package deal of $570. Boken down, that's $130 per corner and $50 for the wheel alignment.

I said \"if you do it for $560 then you have a deal\". He agreed straight away and tyres have been ordered. I made sure they were made in Japan and ALL TOYO TYRES SOLD BY TYREPOWER ARE MADE IN JAPAN!

I know it's new stock too because they are out of stock and a fresh batch just arrived on the dock today.

I will be getting them put on mid this week and will give a review once they are worn in. I just need to try not smacking my car into a rock wall this time...

So to summarise:
Toyo Proxes 4 - 205/45/ZR16
$130 per tyre
$40 wheel alignment (I can specify specs)
So $560 all up including supply, fit and balance and wheel alignment.

I am a happy camper!

PS. For those who are interested, he gave a price of $165 for the T1R without any negotiating what-so-ever.

Hmmm, seems like a great price for 16s. I am almost certain that my chinese tyres are not going to be a suitable match for the power levels I will have once tuned, so will be on the lookout for a new tyre, although, being a poor student, I have to make a few compromises...

When you've bedded them in you'll have to come and take my car for a spin (not a doughnut though!) and compare the TR1s to them - I would be interested in seeing what the difference is.

I'm really interested too with the results, as I was desiring a set of T1R's but wasn't able to get them, and instead settled for the Proxes4's.

They seem alrite....haven't taken them to the track yet so will have to wait until Easter weekend to really test them out. But they seem to grip ok in the dry. Wet grip is acceptable.

I haven't really pushed the car to the point of prolonged oversteer on the road but for general quick driving they are acceptable.

I would have definitely gone for some T1R's though if anywhere in Aus had them at the time

Deez, you’re lucky that you didn’t get T1-Rs.

After 2 months on these tyres I think that would have to be the worst performance tyre I have dríven on. I’m very disappointed with them.

• They lack directional control. The side walls are too soft. Going into an undulating corner where the tyre un-weights then the re-weights can be a very nerve racking experience.

• They lack straight line grip. I have no problems breaking traction and remember that the car has LSD. You shouldn’t have to feather the throttle exiting tight corners to stop the wheels a spinning in an MX5.

• They squeal like all buggery in car parks when turning across painted surfaces where a sedan in front doing the same speed is as quite as a church mouse.

• They get a scrabbling noise up when taking corners at moderate speed like they are really struggling to hang on.

My last trip to Wakefield on the T1-Rs, another NC (Bluebluger) who I'm normally 1.5 seconds quicker than around the long circuit, beat me on the hillclimb and short circuit quite easily. He didn’t run on the long circuit this time so I couldn’t do that comparison. Verdict: They under perform compared to the Michelin Precedas.

By the way, Tyrepower Hornsby also advised me to get the Proxy 4 because they didn’t have the T1-Rs in stock. Blairs, another and possibly the biggest Toyo dealer, said steer clear of the 4s as they are designed for heavier passenger vehicles like the Camry.

Had my rant. Now to devise a way to get another set of PP2s without a lot of expense.

Yes quite alot of times in fact in any post mentioning them, and so far your the only one I overly remember squealing like a stuck pig about them being crap. I for one love them and push them hard, and so do alot of others so go and have a cold drink or if your really so passionate about the Michelins just go and friggin buy some will you.

Na, i've only heard good things about both types of tyres. Out of all the reviews I read on both types, there was a minute percentage that weren't happy (i'm talking about 1-2%). I read your review in about 3 different posts but the majority won my mind over.

Actually, they didn't advise me to get the 4s, I told them what I wanted. They were out of stock on the 4s but are getting a fresh batch from the ship this week and the guy on the phone was more than helpful.

Blairs were full of crap when they said it was for a passenger car, they were just upselling the T1R to you i'm afraid. Their performance tyre for passenger cars is the Toyo Trampio (TPG): http://www.toyo.com.au/TPG%20page.htm
