Ooh that rear speaker install does look nice. I'm getting very tempted to take the seats out and pull up the back wall carpet and see how easy it is to get 6x9's mounted there. Don't particularly fancy having the speakers up quite as high as yours, but that's only because I don't wanna sacrifice the wind blocker if I can help it.

Went to Mania today for the Expo thingo and spoke to one of the guys there about mounting in the back parcel shelf. Although it's doable, he reckoned it's probably not so good for the rigidity of the car. I don't know whether having a BD (or similar) bar would help offset it, but now I'm gonna think of a different approach.

you could do it a thousand ways with just some MDF some screws and a bit of carpet, I might do a new one for mine and if I do then I'll have a new thread for it just not sure about it yet as this time it will be behind the rollbar so I will have to think up a way to do it, but it shouldn't be too hard

I actually went out to the car just then, pulled my 6x9's out of their speaker boxes and did some thinking.
If you used MDF and raised it, I would think that it would affect the operation of the soft top. Somehow I get the feeling it wouldn't fold down correctly, but this is only me guessing at things. Doing a cut job of the windblocker would work, but that would need some sort of casing to cover up the rear speakers sticking out. Could again try with MDF, but that seems like it'd be quite a bit of work.
I've got more to say (went old thread hunting) but I gotta run. I'll post info about the old thread. If you look up good win racing and their audio stuff, you'll see what i mean.

Right, so I'm back, and have time.
I went hunting for an old thread that had this in it:
http://www.good-win-racing.com/Mazda-Pe ... -1075.html
I emailed them eariler today asking how the speakers can be set up, how to plug in etc, and most importantly, how much to ship down under. Wonder what they'll have to say for themselves...

Right, I got a reply from Brian Goodwin. Unfortunately, they won't fit 6x9's. The speaker holes are precut, so I guess it's 4 6.5s or nothing. Unless you could recut their speaker holes, but I'm not game to pay for the cost of it and cut it.
Other problem is that the item must be fed-exed or UPSed since it's too big to go through normal US post. He reckons it'll be several hundred dollars. Don't know whether a group buy would reduce that price.
Either way, if I can't fit my 6x9's, I'm inclined to give it a miss for the moment. Unfortunate really. I might just have to try and do some jerry rigging instead with perhaps a spare winblocker or something
