Enetering security code into NB8A headunit

Hey all,

I took the battery out of my NB8A to charge it up, put it back in everything working fine except the stock stereo. Ok, I thought, must need the security code entering (haven't had to do this before). Trouble is, I looked in the manual and the method it describes doesn't work - in fact, it says that the unit should power up before you press the buttons but mine doesn't seem to have any power at all- maybe I'm just being a doofus. Any ideas? Have a big trip next weekend so would prefer not to be musicless!

You will need the key in at least the acc position and you will also have to push the on button on the unit Spiky (it may sound like an err derr statement, but it's often the err derrs that make it work).
Does your ariel still go up?

Thanks Woo - yeah I have the ignition to Acc and have pressed the button but it has no power at all. Might try yanking the whole thing out and seeing if reconnecting it helps.

If not, time for a new headunit (with ipod input so I can reclaim the boot space from the cd stacker!) I think.

Well I tried pulling the fuse, pulled out the unit and reconnected and it's made no difference. Think it's time for a new headunit

well a few tips for the new headunit
you can install it yourself it isn't that hard (I did my own install) this way you save some money

but

if you get it installed by the people who sell you the headunit you will have better after sales service if anything goes wrong with it and some sellers will even void the warrany if they don't get to install it myself, not sure if that's leagal but it is life well for me at least
had a bit of trouble with rear RCA outputs went back to shop and was told whatever was wrong with it wasn't covered so i fixed it myself all good now just annoying that I was turned down before they even looked at it (problem was loose RCA on headunit due to the shallow NB radio slot)

I've got a new Panasonic unit (with front aux in for ipod - yay!) which should do the trick - just gotta do the install

Thanks Mr. Rotary - I've already decided to replace my H/U, though Fingers crossed that the wiring harness I ordered from mx5parts turns up before Friday. Can't be bothered cutting and stripping wires ;)

Once I've replaced it I might see if I can figure out what's up with the old one - if I can fix it there will be an OEM NB headunit + in-boot 6-CD stacker for sale...
