And even if they did mould a special holder for us, which size plates should they model it on? There are about 4 or 5 different sizes available around Australia.

A number of countries don't even require front plates (most states of the USA do'nt require them) and others allow stick on plates, so where should Mada turn?

What they've done, is produce a front plate holder that fits most of the world's number plates, and it is in plastic, so it's easy to trim off to the right size anyway.
Dealers may be lazy in not trimming it for you, but they are there to sell cars, not modify plate holders.

I was told by a dealer that the plate holders are installed in the holding yard, after the ship docks. So I assume that they are a design for Australia otherwise it would be a factory install.

I think the main problem that makes it all look so clumsy is that dealers are using the pre-drilled holes on the Aussie licence plates to mate up with the pre-threaded holes on the plate holder, instead of drilling the licence plate to match the plate holder.

Anyway, my plate holder is trimmed to fit now and I am very happy.

See pics below.

Take a look at the monstrosity I acquired from the caryard on delivery (I don't think I need to specify which caryard).

This is my current plate setup (on a slightly different car)... Note there are NO screws, rivets or bolts.

I rest my case.

You should have seen what my ¾-size plate looked like when I collected the car, even though I gave detailed instructions to two people at the dealership.

Unfortunately I didn’t think to get a photo – it would have been priceless  .
