BEGi TB inlet on SE not the easiest of installs

Postby blackster » Sun Mar 04, 2007 4:26 pm

Attempted to put in the BEGi TB and ran into the following problems.

Image

The diameter of the BEGi TB inlet feeding into the OEM intercooler rubber hose is a total 57mm, the factory OEM brass connector that joins the OEM rubber inlet hose to the OEM rubber intercooler hose is 52mm.

Image

The inner diameter of the BOV hole on the BEGi TB inlet 14mm, the inner diameter of BOV hole on the OEM brass connector used to connect the BOV line to the OEM TB inlet is 18mm, the hole on the OEM inlet is roughly the same. The photo clearly shows that the BEGi inner hole is to small and the hose slips off very easily as the outer diameter is also to small.

I feel with such a small hole, im likely to run into compression surge.

Disapointed with BEGi quality control!!! As this has been brought up before and this is apparently a new batch.

I managed to get it on.

What didnt work

Heating up the rubber hose with hot water
Soapy water
Silicone spray
Palmolive dish washing liquid alone

What did work

Rubbing back the black coat by 2mm around the bead and nozzle
Applying a thin layer of teflon coating over the rubbed back bead and nozzle
Palmolive dish washing liquid (thanks boris)
A bit more humidity today
A tonne of force

In order to make the BOV hole bigger then 14mm i bought 16mm shank drill bit and borrowed the use of fixed workbench drill. At 14mm compressor surge was experienced @ 16mm no compressor surge

2 of the T bolt clamps supplied by BEGi were incorrect size and would not fit over the inlet the correct size is 65-75mm.

As the BOV nozzle on the BEGi is smaller then the OEM nozzle, the hose was secured onto the BEGi with 1x 14-27mm spring clamp.

All in all

x1 16mm shank drill bit $42 AUD
x2 65-75mm T bolt clamps $10 AUD
x2 14-27mm spring clamps $3 AUD
12 hours installation. Which really should of taken that long if i didnt have to run around and manipulate the BEGi.

My order:

\"I wish to order a \"Mazdaspeed Miata Throttle Inlet tube - P/N 67005 for Stock Replacement\" (black colour).\"

I recieved my BEGI TB inlet last week, ordered direct from BEGI (1 month from order to delivery). After reading this, thought i'd better check mine (not yet installed):

measurement of inner diameter of BOV hole on BEGI unit = 22mm!
They have 3 versions on their website with differing BOV size attachments. Looks like they sent the wrong size. Looked at the bag it came in, hand witten \"P/N 67005\", except the \"5\" (indicating stock size BOV replacement) is clearly overwritten by a \"6\". The \"6\" P/N is the one i have been given.

I've a GFB Mach2 recirc blowoff valve (also not yet installed). Luckily it has swapable adaptors for its inlet and outlet. I may now have to order a different size adaptor and buy a suitable hose.

Measured BEGI inlet to intercooler diameter = 57mm, 2 of the clamps supplied also seem like they're too small. Same as Blackster.

BEGI seems to have a great reputation for customer service. I must admit all my emails/queries were responded to promptly. May send them an email.
