OK. No action from the pump when ignition gets turned on. No hissing or humming

turned it over a few times......spark plug is as dry as The Simpson Desert.

got Spark
no fuel
try to conserve the battery now.

fuel filter probably needs to be changed anyway.......hasn't been changed in ages.

Whats the most logoical way to check from here.

not stupid but very unlikely....timing belt was changed with the engine swap 30k km ago.

hmm fuel pressure.... dissconnect the fuel hose in the engine bay and crank her over for half a second... if your lucky she spurt out some petrol indicating fuel pressure.

Prob not the best way to check but a certain way.

(This will eliminate or not the fuel pump also)

Miata.net says you can strap F/P and GND at the diagnostics connector (similar to your fan) and with the key in the on position the fuel pump should be running.
That would save some battery as you aren't cranking the engine at the same time and will be able to hear the fuel pump.
If it's an in tank fuel pump, it will be fairly easy to replace.
(Sorry I haven't looked for it yet)

I've had 3 of these go, $25 from a wrecker or $110 from newells!!

It's the big green relay in the underbonnet fose box. Will probably have a fried terminal.

It powers the fuel pump, fuel sender unit (have you noticed your gauge acting strangely?) and the injectors. Without it - no fuel gets to the engine.

wow caff :shock: if it turns out to be the ignition relay.....its the first time i've had to replace it.
i've had the car for 10years.....
guage has been normal....or i haven't noticed anything strange.....

Jeebus Caff! Newells certainly win at that rate :shock: ! As Biggus D said, I bought 2 of them from Penruff Maz for $35 each... one sitting in the glovebox for 'ron. :roll:
I wouldn't expect this to be STM's problem - wouldn't the relays etc. be different on the little red rocket?

Steffan - it's pretty unlikely to be a fuel filter - as they block gradually, and normally you feel this as missing or temporary cut-out under load at higher revs. Idle and lower revs usually function OK. Also no point checking timing belt if you don't have any fuel getting there.
