hmmm in the hunt for a nice set of real JDM wheels or something at least looks similar and not \"fully sick\" i came across this add on nissansilvia, from guys known as jdmconcept ( i think i have seen them on ebay before as well) work wheels reseller..

what do you think? any thinking maybe the

XT7 in 17x8 with +32 offset.. rolled guards..

or

XD9 in 17x7.5 with +32 offset.. slighty rolled guards

in terms of colour i think either bronze, gunmetal or even white on white would look pretty tasty on my white NA... what do you guys think?

17's on an NA? kiss your handling goodbye. also the offset is all wrong, i think. happy to be told otherwise tho.

ive already got 17's on it (came with it), i dont mind it? but if there is an improvement with going to say 16's ill consider that.

i have seen 35 offset being quite flush with the stock guards.. hense having to roll them.. i could be wrong also.. just going by memory.

i went from 16's to 15's and the handling is much better. i can only imagine how bad 17's must be. do you drive your car on the twisties or is it just city cruising?

yet to venture out to the twisties as yet... i used to drive an mr2 turbo and loved them dearly.. so no doubt that will be on my to do list :)

The japs like tiny wheels. They got NAs from the factory with 14s and put 13s on them.

Get 13x8 Watanabes or similar, thats JDM yo! 17s is for Aussies trying to be JDM.

I just sold two sets of wheels today.

17\" protech with tyres and just the stock 14\" rim.

I didnt know that there was going to be such a significant difference in weight (bearing in mind the 14\" had no tyres but still!)

I can only imagine what the ride would be like if I went back to a smaller rim!

i'm not quite understanding how a larger profile will increase the handling? could someone please explain this?

i guess are we speaking about handling or ride quality?

Obviously with a low profile.. such as \"40\" on a 17inch rim will be alot harsher than say a 14 inch rim with larger profile rubber.

Generally I would think as long as the rolling diameter is the same on both 14 and 17 inch (maybe its not, im assuming this could be the only reason if you are actually increasing the overall rolling diameter?) they should perform similar? in addition wouldn't there be less sidewall movement on a lower lower profile tyre?

thats what i thought. a lower profile gives reduced tire flex. keep the rolling diameter the same of course. ride comfort isnt imortant to me, handling is.

im exactally the same.. i would be considered if my rolling diameter is going to be increased however!

A larger rim will be heavier. It is this extra weight which dulls the steering and ruins the handling. The lighter the better.

oh is that all you were on about. i'm getting light weight rims any way so thats no issue. shame they dont make magnesiums in the mx5 stud pattern :lol:

A larger rim also puts more of the weight out towards the outside of the tyre/wheel combo, for the same overall diameter and even the same total weight. That means your wheels become more like 4 big flywheels on your car, taking the edge off acceleration and braking.

You'd actually get much better performance off 13s, if you coud find decent tyres for them.
