Dangers of 7200rpm+ ?

You'd want to be pretty brave to keep running it to 8000rpm. I ran my old 1.6L to 7400rpm mostly, did have it set at 7600rpm for a while but trimmed it back for the longer events. I did have a very light flywheel too. Car made bugger all more power above 7250 anyway with the std cams, I simply had it so that I could hold gears a bit longer in certain places. Fixed it by going to slightly taller tyres.

Mazda solids from an NB are a good place to start. Then you need to use a solid lifter camshaft as well. Any good valve springs will do, I use the FM ones with the titanium retainers. A lightened bottom end and better rod and rod bolts will help maintain reliability.

Unless you put in a cam that is suitable for making power up there, it's generally a waste of time and money. That said, my old engine made power up to 8300rpm before it tailed off.

probably one of the best mods for high rpm is adjustable cams. get a pair of those and you'll be making more power up there.
