Whats a good base for tuning cams?
Hey guys, my cam gears should be comming in this arvo so the will be going in as soon as i get my hands on them.
Has anyone got any tips on tuning them? I was told by a trusted mechanic that retarding the exhaust cam is the way to go - said the car will haul arse with that.
I modded a spare cam cover yesterday, so i'm all set for the install. Just need some tips, so any help is greatly appreciated!

Best thing is to get it on a dyno and start with zero, retard a little, advance a little and eventually you will find the sweet spot.
I've seen cams produce peak torque 16 degrees away from where they produce peak power, so be sure you know what you want before turning too much to the advice of others.

When results speak for themselves - don't interrupt.

Yea thanks Sean, I really need to get my beast onto a dyno soon. Actually put some timing into her so i can pull out some power.
I did some road tuning again today, all i did was retard the exhaust cam by 5deg (2 and a half notches) and the power band has moved back to about 4.5k rpm (instead of the previous 5k rpm). I'm just gonna leave it at that untill i can get to a dyno and tune it properly. Oh and the AFR remained the same.
Oh and the boost spike is a bit worse than before but still not that bad i guess.

PS anyone know a good EManage tuner on the south side of brissy that will let me help him out while tuning?

just gave the car a bit of stick on the way home from the archefield drifts and it feels heaps better than before!!! good old cold air helped it alot!! great midrange push (the boost spike helps with this) then continues to pull well up to the redline (with the lower boost).
Only problem is the boost spikes up to about 14-15psi then comes back down to 12. Used to be a smaller spike. I'll have to chack on all the auctuator lines over the weekend make sure there are no additional leaks (got man boost contorller)
