SE guys - up your boost for $20 ?

as you guys might have noticed i like to tinker with d.i.y. electronic kits on my car, i have a few of the jaycar kits and a megasquirt .

just browsing the jaycar site and i noticed they have a new kit. i know nothing about this but it could be worth a look. i have no idea how much psi this adds to the stock set up, but for $20 hey it might be worth a look. it works by intercepting the signal from the ecu, and increases the duty cycle sent to the boost control solenoid. maybe the se or sp turbo guys might want to have a look at it ?
you could wire it onto a switch so that you can switch it in and out.

nah, the EXEDE I'm using does it too and only $1830 more than the Jaycar stuff :roll:

The SP doesn't have an electronic boost controller, so this wouldn't work unless something aftermarket had been fitted.

Does the SE have one? That is one cool bit of gear.

ok it doesn't have a boost controller but dooes it have a boost solenoid?
my understanding is that the SE has a boost solenoid.

and no, my turbo is not on yet. i'm a lazy kent, i know :roll:

but it's not like my car hasn't had any attention lately... new wheels, tyres, service, alignment, new door trims, new instrument hood thingo..... new brakes (not fitted yet tho), new flywheel (not fitted) and new engine (not fiitted... that one be a loooooooong project i think)

You might be onto something here fatty.

I am not all to familiar with the boost control solenoid on the SE, however going over the control system wiring diagram on the SE; there is EGR Boost solenoid sensor solenoid valve, would it be intercepting it from this point?

sounds about right. basically i think you just need to find the wire that carries the duty cycle signal betweem the ecu and boost solenoid. cut this wire and stick this circuit on it.

hmm, just looking at that diagram, i'm wondering if the boost sensor might fight against any changes you make to up the boost?

i don't really know enough about the se or sp to make an informed comment either way, but anyway just thought i'd put this out there for discussion.

i though me and my mates were the only ones... one of my friends started using it after the girls complained that the other C word was too disgusting.

EGR Boost solenoid sensor solenoid valve

I may be wrong but I think all MX5's have them, even non-turbo ones. Isn't that the rubber mounted valve thingamy just near the charcoal canister?

BTW, it wont work on a stock SP. The boost control is mechanical.
