woops i made a mistake.. the drivers nearly bolts straight in, just needs a new hole in the stck rail.

passenger is totally different!!! you will need to get custom rails made up. i got the bride copies for 350 for both.

Do you guys reckon they'll do a discount if we end up choosing different styles?

vrmmmpshhh

you must be a miracle worker to have fitted those seats. :?

I bought a set from Autobarn today. Exactly the same but with the autotecnica badge brand.

There is literally a snowballs chance in a heatwave of those seats fitting in my MX.

I was worried that shoulder width would be the problem, but instead it is the width of the seat base. I even tried just bolting the oem seat rails in the car and then sat the seat on top to see how it would fit - or at least tried to and the seat base couldn't touch the seat rails. The sides of the seat were fouling on the transmission tunnel and door sill area.

I tried just sitting in the seat and being nearly 175cm my head was hitting the soft top. So I just stopped right there.

I'll have to return the seats tomorrow to Autobarn and I think for me I will just have to spend the cash and buy some NB8B high back seats to fit. Aftermarket seats aren't going to work for me - no chance at all.

the driver seat is piss easy. the stock rails nearly bolt straight onto them. just have to drill a new hole on the rail a little bit further up.

passenger side is A LOT harder

No Chance.

They must have changed the design of the base frame or something - either from Autotecnica or just changed it for some reason.

The holes in the base frame are 40mm further apart in width (right to left side of the seat) compared to the OEM seat. I can bolt the oem rails up to the holes drilled on the new seat, but they have no hope of being bolted into the car in the standard position.

The seat rail width is then too wide and the seat itself is too wide to even sit into the car. Like I said the base fouls on the transmission tunnel and door sill area.

If yours fit in so easily, the there must have been a change in seat base design/width. These have no chance of fitting at all.

Well, unless I want my head poking through a hole in the soft top.

Just as a comparison, the base of the Mazda OEM seat is 42cm in width measured at the front of the seat. The Autotecnica seat measured in the same spot is actually 47cm in width.

At the back of the seat, where the adjustment lever is, I didn't measure the Mazda OEM seat, but the Autotecnica seat is 51cm and this is a big part which is causing the seat to foul on the transmission tunnel and the door sill. The seat won't actually sit into the car.

I didn't get the Autotecnica Monza seats.

The ones I got that look and I believe are the same as those in vrmmmpshhh MX5 ( or at least a very similar copy) are the Autotecnica SP20 Targa R33 seats.

Though please correct me if I am wrong vrmmmpshhh.

What I did find today, thanks to some very helpful staff at Belconnen Autobarn was that the OBX Monaco seats fit beautifully.

The base is 42cm wide - the same as the MX5 OEM seats in a NA series. With a bit of custom bracket making, the OEM rails can be mounted. The custom bit would be to simply get some 2inch wide x 3mm thick steel that is 42cm long and mount these on the base of the seat using the existing drilled and tapped holes in the seat base. The rails could then be mounted onto these plates in the same position as the oem seat and then mounted straight in. There is no fouling anywhere on the door, door sill or transmission tunnel.

The only problem is for drivers like me around 6foot tall. Yep. can't see the tops of the guages as the OBX will end up slightly higher. Easily rectifed though I suppose if you take the seat to an upholsterer and ask them to cut off some foam in the base to make you sit lower into the seat. But this all adds to the cost of the seat to maybe an extra $50 per seat to have the foam cut. With Autobarn selling the seat for $340, it is still a cheap sports seat, but then for me I then start thinking about buying some high back NB seats at a similar price.

But the OBX seat would be awesome for drivers around 5 foot 10inchs tall I would think. Depending of course where your height is - body or legs

I was considering the fixed back seats but my wife and I go on regular weekend trips which at times are 4+ hours drive and so I want the seats to be comfortable.

I've yet to hear of or personally used( in prevous modded cars I have owned) a comfortable fixed back seat.

I am now looking at buying some NB high backs instead. Granted they are not as good as an aftermarke sports seat, but for my height problem, I think they are the only solution. Even as it is now with the std NA6 seats, I have them one click forward from being right back and in the position I have it reclined in (ie comfortable and good for my stuffed lower back) I can just see the tops of the tach and speedometer under the steering wheel.
